Hatch Vent Ripoff

I wanted one of those rear hatch vent adapters so that I could raise the coupe hatch a few inches and get better air flow. Sounded like a good idea.

I ordered at Ecklers. I saw that they had two versions - one for $30 and one for $40. The difference was that the cheaper one required the top torx wrench to fasten - the more expensive one required no tools.

So, I bought the $40 unit. It works fine, no problem with Ecklers or the unit.

But the PRICE! $40 for a twisted piece of metal for the latch and a second piece of plastic to hit the switch contact is crazy!

And, my latest browse of the Ecklers website shows that they have INCREASED the price to $42!
Seven years ago I bought the Quick Release Hatch Vent from Mid-America for around $30, It was the more expensive of the two, like you said. But I have never had a problem with it and it is on the car almost all year long, unlike the top. It goes on or off in one second with no adjustments in the last seven years. While I initially thought it was a bit pricey, I think it was worth it, given the improved air flow and the ease of use. One of my favorite accessories - and one of the cheapest. Looks like Corvette Central has it for only $37. What a bargain :-)

My comments about Ecklers is not their price. I bought a few things from them and I am particulary unhappy about the weather strips. They are reproductions and not OEM. I found that out only after receiving the parts, and differences became very obvious after installation. There is no remark in their web site stating they are non-OEM.

Later I found the originals at a different suppliers web site but it was already too late...

I have a 50 / 50 rating for Ecklers. On one order they gave great service. On the next order they screwed up the shipping, stopped answering my email and their international customer service put me into an endless loop.:mad I finally bought the part (brake booster) from one of our sponsors and the part arrived here in Spain in 3 days. The Ecklers unit arrived 4 months later. Anybody need a C4 booster? I have a new spare you can have for the same 10% less than I paid for it that Ecklers is willing to refund if I return it. (I canceled the order by email but they ignored it.):(

If you want your Vette to seem cheaper get a boat and an airplane. Rotex just ask me to pay $427 for a carburetor for a micro-light that is identical to the carb on my competition go-kart…the go-kart carb sells for $110 and that is too much!:eyerole

I bought one from the Gadget man and it worked fine. Forgot the price but it was much less that $40. Just looked on their website, $23 free shipping. And it does take only a few seconds to install.

And, The Gadget Man is a pleasure to deal with. I bought their C4 jack adaptor and they delivered it personally to my front door because they were passing through town. :beer

Well, I will probably keep it, but I just feel ripped off. Did I miss something?

I'll agree that the price is high for the unit you got (which other's besides Eckler's sell, BTW) but I've used both on my 95 and the one you have, the "curly-cue" piece of wire and the plastic extension are, by far, the better design. I keep it in a small Ziploc bag in my console box. I use it a lot in the summer time.

Corvette Gaget Man - Have had my Vent Hatch thingy two years and never a problem with it.
(now I need something for the C5... )

Check, Rain - I believe they now have one for the C5.

Same here, the gadgetman is the way to go........price & quality.

I have one, but have never used it. Why did I buy it anyway. Oh yeah, read about it on the forum.

Ditto. Read about it here and ordered one. It is everything I expected.

Put one on my Vette, but only use it when the car is in the hot sun , with a cover on.
Just do it to keep the car a little cooler.
Never drove with it.
