Got another poser for you......Vette was in the garage for about 6 hours without being so much as breathed on. Horn starts blaring, not the staccato on steroids sound of the security system,
just a steady blare. Finally had to pull the plug on the horn to shut it up. Checked the horn button to no avail. Completely disconnected the horn button on the wheel, but it stills blasts when re-connected under the bonnet. My Haynes repair bible doesn't touch on anything but horn removal. Is there a relay I don't know about or something. I don't drive with my horn, but it is a state law to have one.;help :hb

Hmmm... That's a poser. Do you think it had anything to do with the Texas heat? Sounds like a short to me though. :confused

Your probably right, Ken. Just looking for an easy way out before I start tracking. Never hurts to ask or hope. Thanks again.
:pat

My car has been doing exactly the same thing. Cannot figure it out, finally unhooked the horns, goota be a short somewhere?

was the car locked in the garage?

Just for the hell of it, check the door switches.

No, Tuna, unlocked with the windows down.

MMark2, I'm gonnal start me checking today so if I find something I'll post it here to let you know. Thanks all and a 'tip-o-the-hat' ;shrug

Guess I'd better read my own posts before submitting.................
Obviously I can't spell because I let my fingers do the walking.
:Silly

Good luck with the search.

The reason I mentioned the door switches was they were the cause of my horn honking once but then the car was locked also.

Horn

I have a '95 so may misdiagnose.
There's a horn relay in the bottom right side of the I/P (that must be 'instrument panel') in a 'Relay Retainer'
The manual also talks about several 'shorting' possibilities in the CCM and wiring between the relay and CCM (circuits 28 and 29)
Hope this helps
PS I've had several old non-vette clunkers that did this and it was the relay.

Thanks. I've been trying to find where a relay might be as it's not mentioned in the Haynes bible. ;shrug

I do not care for the Haynes manual, especially the Haynes. If I didn't have a Helms manual, or have access to one, I might try a Chiltons. That at least is better than Haynes in my opinion.

Thanks, Ken. I'll be taking your advice and upgrading my reading material. Need all the help I can get.

Gordon

;stupid

As you said Haynes is no help for component location, it does sound like a relay problem.

I can't host an attachment otherwise I would post a link to some notes I made, but the horn relay is behind the Drivers Information Center, lower center.

Thanks, Berky

That's what I've been looking for, but sure was hoping for easier access. Oh well, can't learn until you jump in. Thanks again,
Gordon :beer

BTW, Ken,
I did upgrade to a Chilton

Oh I know, the horn on my 86' is horrid. One day i was driving down the street in my neighborhood, and this little girl drops her ball and it rolls across the street and she stops at the side. I slow down to dodge the ball, and all of a sudden my horn goes crazy! The kid freaks out and runs inside her house and it takes me 30 sec to shut the horn up (I karate chopped the wheel and it stopped) Eventually i couldnt control it, so its currently disconnected :/

Good one SpaceGoat. It's a good thing you weren't into Savate. That would have interesting to watch.;LOL
