After reading a lot of your comments I've decided to go with a 383 swap instead of doing the BB. I've been looking around at crate engines and the standard seems to be the all forged gm rotating assembly with the fast-burn heads. I got to thinking about just getting the short block and doing my own head/cam selection. Any advice would be great, and I want to go EFI.

My $.02 here. I'd get really busy and do lots and lots of research. There are tons of reputable companies that will build you a spec engine- you call the parts and they can tell you if they'll work together. Not shilling for anyone, but take a look at CNC-Motorsports.com is your resource for High Quality, Hi-Performance auto parts from industry names you trust. Home page They have a good size list of short blocks, crate engines, and lots of parts. And that's just one. I wouldn't bet against someone like S-D not having an EFI ready 383. Complete, or at least have all the needed stuff to make it complete.

Holy Crap!! I just put CNC Motorsports' link in there and it spit up a whole new line!! Never seen that happen before. (GULP)

Ahhh.... go for the big block!

Just kidding - I'm just being a wise a**.

My friend recently got a ZZ4 crate engine (GM Performance Parts). He didn't do a darn thing to it. He pretty much dropped it it and was done --- all in all it took a little over a weekend to complete... and THAT ENGINE IS A ROCKET! I am also familiar with CNC Motorsports - and they're great.

I spent and entire summer and lots of $ on my rebuild. That crate motor is just as hefty or better than mine!

While I do enjoy working on engines, etc., I would recommend getting something already completed... Here's MY rationale:

1. The ZZ4 crate motor will likely have complemenary components,
2. It is fast... I do enjoy a fast car - but seriously - I do not plan to race. I know my car will easily reach 130 mph --- that's fine for me.
3. Saves time (and possibly money)... and you'll be back on the road sooner!

Of course this is my 2 cents...
