the headlights on my 73 only open with the manual switch under the steering wheel.....the light switch only turns them on.....it seems that the vac. is working due to the manual switch....is this an indicator the light switch is gone?... it also seems the headlights "wink" ( open a little then close)when it is started.....not sure if that is normal or an indicator of a bigger problem.thanks for the time.

vaccum leak

Sounds like a vaccum leak to me. My own will 'wink'...I used to be able to stand outside the 78 and pull the knob, then run around to the front and catch the passenger headlight to 'help' it up.

Now, I can run to the front and juuussst catch the driver side headlight to help it up, then have to kneel down and reach under and push the passenger headlight up.

I did not know the knob under the steering column would lift the lights. I thought they just allowed the lights to stay up whether the light switch was on or off.
