Hooker header info

He got the Hookers. These are the parts number from Summit Racing:

HOK-2151 HKR

HOK-2149 HKR

One of them is for an emissions compliant header but I can't remember which one it is!

Both 2149 and 2151 are ceramic coated.:D

They don't come with a y-pipe, though. I think the y-pipe is about $140 or so.

2149's are emission legal ceramic coated. 2151's are non emission painted. 2151-1's are non emission ceramic coated. And yes, you need a Y-pipe to fit them unless you've got true duals (a house specialty here ;) ). They fit like a glove. There is a note in the catalog stating they will not work with AFR angleplug heads, but they work fantastic with OE heads.

Enjoy the ride, Shane :)

:D

Do you recommend these over the TPIS headers? Sorry, Shane, just gotta put you on the spot since you probably get that asked a lot.:D

Dont want to hi-jack this post, but how should you determine what size collector you want. I am going to order a pair of headers for my Trans Am but have the option of 2 1/2 or 3 inch collector.

Just gotta bump you to the top so your question can be answered!

Okay the guy I am going to go through for the headers is having them made to fit my car (Trans Am) specifically. He says the only difference in the two sizes may be the scavenging (sp) effect. He did assure me that the 3" collector will outperform any four tube header on the market of the same size. I have seen the dyno results that proves this. He also told me that if I choose one, and when the he runs dyno results on the 2 1/2" collector he would swap me for no charge. THis is a great deal, but would like to get it right on the first try. Is bigger always better?

Absolutely not. Better is what fits your application to your satisfaction and that also matches. If bigger was always better, we wouldn't need technicians and mechanics, we would just go out and buy the biggest intake, cam, heads, exhaust that are out there.

Edmond,

Ever heard of this scavenging effect. From what was explained to me is that the vacuum created from the exhaust in the headers actually helps pull the next exhaust pulse out. It somewhat makes sense. I guess if I can swap them if I need to might as well get the 3" for now. He says there is around 1/4" of more ground clearance with the 2 1/2" which doesn't really matter to me. Do you think that is a safe choice?

From what I've read, you can go with bigger tubes on the exhaust and it will give you more maximum power. However, that could come at the cost of low end power. The power curve is usually shifted into the higher RPM's with a larger exhaust.
