I ordered a new set because one was broken off. Mine were all reduced diameter flat head sheet metal type screws, look to be about a #6 and the replacements were #8 flat head machine screws in the two front positions, flat head sheet metal with washers on the two side positions. I thought Bubba had probably put in the sheet metal ones in the front after the origionals had been stripped but the new ones are bigger. What the heck size and style are these supposed to be?

And if I had to re-tap some machine screw threads in the housing are there any recomendations for a filler that works and lasts? Lab Metal or something like that?

I think they are a #8 UNF (fine) thread. I did replace mine as Bubba used sheetmetal screws, but at least didn't tear up the threads. I got stainless ones with nice washers (similar to interior trim screws) on the heads. They were about $5 from Corvette America. Sorry, I can't remember the exact pitch for tapping.

JB Weld is a good strong mix-type epoxy/filler. We have used it on Harley cylinder heads when doing port/polish/flow work-it holds up! ;)

Hi Rick,

Thanx, I was suprised to find them to be #8 UNF screws in the stuff I bought from Mid America. They're really no good to use, they're cad plated junk.

I have some JB Weld, didn't know it was strong enough for thread tapping. Is is really?

McMurdo huh? I ran a few phone patches years ago for some guys down there on ham radio. KC4AAA callsign I think. Getting too old to remember:D

Ham patch

Ahhh-yes-the old "ham patch" days, how well I remember my winter in 1980. Getting friends and family to actually have a conversation before saying "over" was, well, difficult. Hello-over. How are you-over. :eyerole These days we just dial to an outside line, it connects via satellite through Webster, Washington-area code 509. Making a call home is real easy now. On-Ice, a lot of satellite camps and the Traverse Project (my gig) use Iridium phones, we use HF as backup anymore, not primary.

JB Weld will really do the trick-trust me. :)
