Headlight Door won't stay closed

Just upgraded from a C4 to a 2000 C5. The "check engine" light came on yesterday. I read the manual, filled up with gas, checked to make sure the gas cap was tight, but the light stayed on. Heard that disconnecting the battery might help. I disconnected negative terminal, then positive. Let it sit for an hour then reinstalled battery, positive first, then negative. Check engine light is still on.... but now might left headlight door comes back open when you shut off the lights! When you turn lights to "on" they both open and shine properly. When you shut them "off" they both close but the left door then comes back open..... HELP! I know... I'm keeping my day job.... but I didn't think I would break it by disconnecting the battery!

I would disconnect the battery with the lights on, just remember, the hood clears the lights only when open or closed, don't open the lights with the hood somewhere between open and close or vice versa. . . let it sit for 15 minutes reconnect. Disconnect the negative only, no need to do both.

Ignore these codes:
U1016 H, U1064 H, U1096 H
They don't mean anything. . . well, they do, but it's not a problem and most C5's have them. . . (the H means that they are in history mode, not an active code)

WTF !!! My hod always clears the headlights in any position. Where did you get this fancy fact from??

HI there,
There is a TSB for the drivers side headlamp popping up when shut off.
The fix is to install 3 washers behind the motor, and add new bumpers.
The cost is about $5 .
You can do it yourself.

C4C5, many thanks for the replies. Where would I be able to see the tech service bulletin that describes (and shows?) details of the motor and bumpers and where to install the washers. I am mechanically challenged... I usually break it and then say... oh... that's how that works!

The bulletin is 00-08-42-002 and a copy of this is in the knowledgebase here at the CACC.
The diagram attached will show just how the washers and bumpers are orientated.
