Headlight goes out, dash flickers, idles rough

Noticed last night, that my left headlight (normal, high okay) went out. The other headlight was flickering, noticed the dash lights flickering, when at stop light, I can hear and feel the engine hesitating in-time with the flickering. Just had an alternator put in last week. Hoping just replacing the headlight will end it all?

Hi showman, sounds like alternator/battery to me. My son has an '84 and at one time had the alternator replaced 4 times and this was with the expensive stuff ! I would just get one from autozone rather than go to the shop. I'm sure some one with more knowledge than me will give you some pointers. Roger.

A headlight that needs butter (cause it's toast) doesn't normally affect other stuff, like the ignition system that you say might be showing some problems... Does the left high beam light up???

Put a multimeter on the headlight 12V connector, and see what's flowing. Test the ground too, at the headlight, and also back up along the harness that feeds the headlight.

I vote for grounds

for the flickering dash.. and the headlight might be on it's way out..

Corrosion is the #1 problem for a majority electrical gremilins..

Considering the age of the car... disassemble, inspect, clean, test, seal & re assemble.. repeat as needed.
