hi there guys,
hope you all had a great christmas day and all!
i just noticed today that when i put the headlights or just parkers on that when the hood is open the left hand side top turning knob on the headlight motor spins around bye its self and makes a whining noise!
it stays like that for 5-8 seconds then stops and every thing is fine then!
and then when i go to turn parkers or lights pop down it makes that niose again!
it still operates ok up and down but the noise is annoying and infact when it does make the noise the headlight motor vibrates a bit as well!

what could this be guys?

may be the gear?, or may be the derlin bushings maybe?
any ideas or help would be really great!
thanks guyus
cheers

Probably the bushings. Mine acted the same way until I replaced them. Do a search and there are probably many threads explaining the procedure. First one was a PITA. After you've done one the second one is a snap.

Good Luck.

bushings should do it...like bal 88 sez after the first time its ez, so if ever necessary, goin back for the gears is cake

btw..this problem surfaced on buddies vette, scheduled by murphy...i just happened to have 89 (?) pontiac sunbird flip-up headlite assy's (were meant for james bund license plate project) that are identical drive mechanism, just left/right reversed...if u want to stock spares

Jon will be here shortly with a link to a step by step on how to do it. The bushings are really inexpensive, I think I paid about $9.00 with shipping for both headlights. But it took me a couple of hours to do the work just on one side. The bushings were non-existent, they were just ground into powder at that point. This was about 2.5-3 years ago.

hi edmond,
how are you!
i brought the 6 bushings a while ago but have not had the time to replace the bushings!
can i replace the bushings with out pulling the whole headlight motor out from the hood?
thanks for the link you will give me!
cheers
