headlight sensor - how to disconnect?

yet another - sorry, file size too big - it was the location of the sensor on the dash and I was going to send a photo of my baby!

JonM - this is too funny! Hubby walked into the room as I was posting a reply. The first thing he said when he looked at my monitor was "What are you doing on a porn site!?". He didn't believe me when I told him I was on the Corvette site. I showed him how to search around, etc., but I'm not sure he's convinced!

Cheers,

Ann

;LOL I guess I keep forgetting other cars have airbags...If that thing went off, it would have felt like Mike Tyson came to dinner with a "right cross"

If you don't know how to resize the photos, you can send them to me and I will do it for you.

The offer is still open if you can't find the resistors. I think they are onlt 50 cents.

50 cents AMERICAN, you mean. That's about eight hundred bucks up here! I looked in another place but no luck again. Tomorrow I'll phone a computer store.

JonM - thanks for your offers. I'll keep it tucked away in the back of my mind. In the meantime, I figured out how to get the photos to a smaller size. Hopefully I haven't destroyed the quality too badly.

Thank you ....... I think.......

White? The interior is grey (seats and carpets) and black.

Dontcha hate when that happens? Is it steak or cake?

If you just remove the actual sensor (under the black cap in the dash) and replace it with a flattened piece of metal to complete the circut, your lights will only work off the switch. The good thing about by-passing your automatic headlights this way is you can just replace the sensor for the piece of metal you used to complete the circut and they are fully functional again.

Tommy - thanks for the confirmation. I may resort to this in the end. The set up is just too bulky and my sensor doesn't sit perfectly flush with the dash. No one would notice, but I know it's there....

Finally did find someone with several 100 ohm resistors. Wasn't prepared for the question: What wattage? ARGHHH!!!!! I figure I wasn't destined to go this route anyway 'cause I threw out 10 and he said he had everything BUT a 10 watt. Welcome to my world! (GRIN)

The actual sensor plugs into the harness, the harness plugs into the black cover that you see on the top of the dash. If you carefully pull the black cover out of the dash, then seperate the harness (with sensor) from the cover, you will see the sensor it is blue in color and it plugs into the harness just like a fuse. Remove the sensor and replace it with a flattened butt conector or something made of metal to complete the circut. Then put the harness into the black cover and back into the dash. Your lights will only come on with the switch and as I said before you can put the sensor back in at any time if you wish to return your car to stock takes 5-10 minutes.

That is, without a doubt, the clearest set of instructions ever!

Thank you. I'm sure other Canadian Vette owners will be grateful too.

I just happened onto this post. It was a fine example of a problem defined, the problem discussed and a solution found. Excellent cooperation between friends in the CAC to actually apply the fix and troubleshooting some bugs. Well done.

The following quote made it worth the read.

“You will need electricians tape, sharp scissors (and wire cutters too if you have them) and vice grips (to hold the wires in place while you work).”
