Headlight upgrade

Also if you are going to change....do yourself a favor...get the plastic headlight housings.

I Was just at Auto Zone picking up a new battery for my daughters car. The counter man said the same thing as 85C4. Get the plastic lights, the lighter weight will save the headlight motors. He said he is a Corvette mechanic. Also he said the headlights should have been switched over to plastic already, there was a service bulletin on it. I dont know about the service bulletin but lighter lamps make sense.

On the shelf there they have Syvania super white halogen regular glass headlamps, and the super white replacemet elements. The superwhite headlamps are by far the cheaper way to go at just under $14 each. But I think the smarter way to go is getting the plastic housings to save weight and use the super white elements to get better light.

Now I need to find the plastic housings instead of glass. Ebay sellers tout the glass as so much better. But for us I think plastic is the way to go.

If you get the Hella or Ciebe lamps with replacable bulbs read the stuff at Daniel Stern's Lighting site. The factory wiring isn't designed to support the current of the high watt bulbs.
I upgraded the wiring, sockets and installed relays in my 87 and run the 90/130 bulbs (I have the Ciebe E-coded housings) The headlights pull 18.5 amps on low beam. Now I see stuff and drive around it at night not just run over it. These lights don't blind on comming drivers if they are adjusted properly since they focus the light along the ground where it needs to be. Also they make it easier to see in the rain because they don't shine light up to reflect off the rain.
I have about $175 in the lamps bulbs wiring ect but it was worth it since I my car is a daily driver.
