I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this dillema I am having. I turn my headlights on and drive about two blocks when the left side headlight falls down. It goes up and down fine, but it is like there is no resistace on it. If you push the headlight down, it stays down. If you try to help it back up, it falls back to where it was. Any advice would be greatly apprecitated.

your bushings are bad. run a search in the forums here for more help. The fix is very cheap (under $5), but will take a couple of hours if you take your time with basic tools.

Its either the bushings or the nylon gears.I had the same problem with mine and it turned out to be the gears. When I opened the motors up they were ful of plastic shavings.I opted to send them out and exchange for a rebuilt set.

most likely it will be the bushings....there wasn't actually bushing in there to begin with...just a hard gel that breaks down and turns to dust....the new bushings replace that gel. It is VERY common...and like said before, very easy to fix just takes time. In the meantime...you can tie your headlights in the up position until you have the time to fix them.

Yep, check eBay and the bushings are like $5.00 a set. I just did one of my headlights last week and it took me 5 hours straight through.

Tools you'll need :Torx #15, Torx # 30, Phillips driver, 1/4 socket, 10mm socket, 15mm socket. Small punch, and thin pick if your doing the pass. side. The pick is used to break the rear edge of the plastic gear that rides on the worm gear, in order to remove it outward past the worm gear ( only on the pass. side). The driver side is a mirror image of the pass. side. If you do the driver side 1st, it will make sense. You should do both headlights since in every case one follows the other shortly after.

Hey Thanks for all of your advice. I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend. :bang

# of Hours........

Wow Edmond, five hours! Mine took an hour on each side. Just lucky I guess.

Hi all. I just replaced the plastic bushings in the headlight motors of my 90. It also took me about 45min-1hr per side, and I didn't even have a manual?!?! Pretty simple, especially since I read here in the forum on how to do it-----didn't need a manual!!

Now my lights work great :beer

Now if I can just get the parts guys to order me the correct radiator I'll be in business. Have you ever gotten the excuse "Oh, someone packaged the wrong radiator in the right box"? Or this excuse for any item other than a radiator??

Hope this helps.

I'll lay odds its your bushings. Go to Home Depot and ask for item number 595609. You will need six of these nylon spacers to repair both headlights. They cost me .69 cents (plus tax) for a pack of three at my local Home Depot store.

Much cheaper than the $7.99 price in MAD, Eckler's and some of the other specialty catalogs and they are the exact same Delrin spacers. Go figure.

If there's a TechTips portal on this Forum search under "headlight bushings." If not, let me know and I'll see if I can get you a copy of the instructions I used when I replaced mine a couple of months ago.
