I've been searching and I just can't find the the answer to the problem that I think I'm having.

I was changing the blinker on the front of the car. And so I took off the bezel around the driver's side front headlight. After finally getting the blinker light switched out, I put it all back together and now my headlights won't go up or down. I don't hear any gear grinding or anything. During the changing of the lights, I left the headlights up, but off. I put the headlights on the running lights position and they are off but not down.

So, any ideas? I've disconnected the positive terminal for about 15mins and thought that, that might "reset" things. But that didn't work.

thanks

I don't know if my method will have any effect but try closing the headlights manually then try turning on the lights and see if this works. Just my .02.

First, welcome to the CAC. We are glad you are here. :D

Do the lights turn on?

Did you check the fuses?

Could you have accidentally disconnected a wire or connector?

DRTH VTR has a point on disconnecting a wire. Check the headlight module to make sure you didn't unplug something. It is located on the passenger side below the headlight.

When I turn the lights off on my 04 I do it one click at a time. If I just go fast thru the first click they will stay open but the lights will be off. Not sure why but this is what I do.
But I will check if any wires are off too now.

Thanks for the welcome :upthumbs

Yeah I checked the fuses under the hood, all ok.

The lights function as normal, i.e. turn on, off, and high beams.

I think I might have accidentally touched a wire, because before there were no signs of failure.

I'll go and see if I can find/check the headlight module.

thanks for the responses and help. Sorry for the late response, my computer started acting crazy, turns out the mouse went bad. :mad

If you can manually move them up and down by turning the end of the motor then It's got to be electrical. If you put the mechanical parts of the lights together wrong, they either wouldn't move at all or be going up and down and up and down until you turn them off. I think it must be the motor relay.

Where's the motor relay. I'm now checking the fuses under the dash on the passenger side. But, I don't know what GM calls the motor relay. Anybody knows where the relay is located, and what GM calls the relay?

thanks for the help

On another note: I had a starter relay go out on my backhoe :L

Update: The taillights and the dash display don't light up. This is not new I just didn't notice it when this started. The dash lights up normal, but when you turn the lights on they go out.

any ideas?

Do you have the three volume service manual? If you plan on doing this kind of work yourself, they are very useful.

If this was my car, it would go to my mechanic for diagnostics. There comes a point when I have to recognize that I don't have the knowledge, the skills, or the tools to do very complex work on my car. Other that that, I am ready! But that is just what I do.

Well, I messed around with it this afternoon and fixed it. Under the dash on the passenger side, there a some more fuses in there. I got the owner's manual and not the little diagram that's on the inside of the cover, to look for possible culprits. Well, with the owner's manual it puts the fuses into common terms. And since I just realized that my taillights weren't working, I started with that fuse. And what do you know, it was blown. So I replaced that and all is working :D

Thanks for the help!!
