Krash.....better move over and share some space with me. I am also new and have a million duh questions about my car. Bought a 96 Grand Sport in april with no owners manuel and didn't know how to get the hood down once I opened it. Things have progressed from there but I still have many ? ? ? Hope this site can help me from time to time. Mike

I had that same moment of panic, trying to get the hood down the first time. Speaking of hoods, are your's REALLY heavy to get up. I feel like mine is supposed to have some help from the gas strut, but it's not much. I have 50k miles. It's pretty darn heavy to lift.

It should be heavy for the first foot or so... after that you should get the help from the strut..... it should actually lift itself for the last foot or so, and you should have to pull it down for the first foot or so when you go to close it.

Welcome Krash! I recently purchased a Collectors Edition LT4 and just love it. Watch the engine temp as they tend to run hot in stop and go traffic. I think Mobil 1 is the preferred oil to run and I'm using it. Again, welcome!

I think there's no gas in my strut, the hood slams down like safe dropped from the 10th floor. Course I hold it about a foot or so high & then let go.

Are there any specs on how much the strut should help? Anyone put a new one on lately?

Thanks.

Yes, it is widely accepted that the LT4 was underrated by GM so that it wouldn't take away from the appeal of the brand new LS1 being released in the new C5 the next year.

It would have been hard to be impressed by the LS1 when the LT4 was rated at the same numbers.

Many people on this forum who had their LT4's dyno'd said they produced numbers close to 300 rwhp, stock. Which, as someone pointed out, would be around 345 hp.

So anyway, congrats on your car! I would be interested to hear how it does on the dyno.
