Driving home the other day, I took off rather quickly and the traction contol came on to shut down wheel spin. Ever since that happened, the auto. trans does not shift correctly. It hold first too long and reverse is almost gone . . . no DIC codes are present.

Help!

HI there,
Unfortunately, it sounds like you have a reaction sun shell that stripped out.
If you do not have 2nd, 4th or reverse. This is most likely the cause.
So, do you hear a whining noise in park????
Please keep us posted, c4c5

After some research on the TSBs, thats what I was afraid of as well. I notice that there has been a change in that part for the reaction shell as part of the TSB. There is no whining in park, but there is in reverse when the car starts to move.

Sounds like a big job, what should I expect as far as cost?

HI there,
The cost will all depend on if there is anything else damaged.
The revised sun shell kit is about 230, clutches about 190, 2/4 band 10, overhaul kit about 225.
Labor is the big number. Around 15 hours plus the alignment afterwards.
Please let us know how you make out, c4c5:hb

Thanks for that information, I now know what to expect. Seems like quite a common problem with the 4L60e based on all the repair infromationout there regarding the sun shell replacement.

I will post back once it is repaired.

Waited for the Holiday week to be over and got the car in to the dealer. They did a great job and I am sure it really helped to know what I was taking about. Their C5 specialst said the trans was not damaged and was in good shape so the damage was limited to the sun shell. Did not have to do a major rebuild, but replaced items that take wear and tear since it needed to be torn down to replace the Shell and the bearings

Comments back was that the car was in excellent shape for 55K on the clock.

Cost just about $1900 which included the alignment and a fuel filter change.

Thanks for your advice and information!
