Someone backed into my passenger door today. OUCH! I will need body work as I want the paint to match perfect(magnetic red). I am not sure if the outside panel can be removed or I need a whole new door. The side view mirror housing was damaged also. Anyway, I feel sure it will need paint. I live in the South Jersey/Philly area. Please recommend anyone that does excellent work.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

Doors are hung and painted as a shell with the rest of the panels at the Corvette plant.

Our Corvette was backed into a few months ago, it was a real bummer!

The thing good about your up coming repair & paint work is the door and panels have body lines so they are not joined directly. The new 1/4 panel and rear fascia had to be painted twice to match. She has to go back 1 more time to blend the passenger side rear 1/4 panel with the rear fascia.

I have heard that the guys at Classic Chevrolet in Moorestown are very good. I don't have any first hand experience, but I plan on taking mine there for some touch up work that I want done.

A perfect paint match is pretty hard to get. When you do get it painted stand back from the car something like 50'. Up close, the paint job on my Volvo looked perfect when they just did the door and front fender but, from 50' you could see a difference. They had to "blend" it in by doing the hood and whole right side; they could never get a perfect match.

Another place that this may show up is under the lights (orange or blueish) of a shopping center. I had a friend tell me the the lighting on a car lot masks body work (he was a manager of a dealership) but that the lights on some lots will magnify the mismatch. I owned a used truck for a week and when I came out of the supermarket one evening (the lights went on while I was inside), I came out and was shocked to see that I had just purchased a "clip"! The front and the bed were two distinct colors under the lights.

Thank you everyone for your help, info and support. I am taking it suprisingly well. I may not when I find out about the paint which is my biggest concern. The color is magnetic red.

I just found out that yes indeed I will need a new door. So now I am concerned also about potential leaks.

I have an appointment today for the lady's insurance company to look at the vette before I get it repaired.

Someone told me about Classic and I will be going to talk to them.

6Shooter,

The pics of the repair look excellent. What did you do with the rear fascia?

65-to-00,

What did you do about the truck?

Denise

Denise: Not a thing. I took a hammering on that deal. It was a private seller. He was a contractor who had a farm and there was a light coat of dust on the truck so I missed the paint flaws but you couldn't notice in daylight too well anyway, that's why I made the comment about the shopping center lighting.

Also found out that the 4 wheel drive didn't work so $2K later I wasn't worried about the paint.

The dealership has to keep it for a period of time, after that I plan on making a wall mount out of it.

Denise,

County Corvette in West Chester, Pa. does good work too.
My brother has had paint work done there recently.

Denise,

Sorry to here that.
I hope it gets fixed real soon.

Thank God! I got my baby back today. The paint is excellent but I did not see it in the sun. I no longer have a huge whole in my door.:D Happy holidays.

sorry to hear about the crunch. ouch! i solved this very problem 31 years ago...i never by any other color than white...no metalic paints. yea, i know that its boring but paint is never a problem.

2000Vette,
Great news that your Vette got a little early Christmas present. Now that it's the next day, have you had a chance to take a closer look at it? What do you think? Will the patient live?
