Hi everyone,

I have a 1996 CE LT4 that has developed a problem of sorts. When I turn on the A/C (set climate control to 60 degrees), I get nice cold air, but it is delivered to the wrong spot. The air will only be delivered through the top and bottom vents, but not to my face like it is supposed to. ;)

Anyone experience this problem before and if so, any suggestions on what may be wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

megatron, I had the same problem with my 95. If you pull the cover over your passenger side fuel rail cover, you will find a small pastic vacum check valve which has probably melted from the engine heat. You can pick a new one up for about 7 dollars at the dealer.

Do you have a part number?

no, sure don't, but the dealer parts guy did not have any problems finding it on the computer once I told him what it was. They call it a vacum check valve.

I'm having the same problem with my '86 coupe with the electronic climate control. Where would I find this check valve? Also, the a/c blower on high blows low but from time to time it will "kick in" on high.......any ideas?

You must first remove the passenger side fuel rail cover. On my 95, it is a plastic cover that you simply pull up on it and it is released by two pressure type clips. The valve is about about 3/4 of the way back on the side of the intake manifold. There is a nipple coming off the intake manifold and you should see a small length of vacum hose attached. The valve will be plugged into the end of that vacum hose. My valve then had two other vacum lines coming off of the valve, one goes to the control console, the other goes to the cruise control unit.

My '96 is doing the same thing, and the check valve appears to be fine...my air will start coming out of the panel vents after a few miles/minutes, so I don't know what to check next. I have taken a look at the programmer up above the accelerator pedal, and all the hoses seem to be fine......I'm at a loss on mine.......guess I'll end up taking it to the dealer & getting ripped off. Any advice first here is welcome, though!:D Good luck with the fix; let us know what you find.

Will definitely do so.......I'm getting tired of the windshield getting fogged up along the bottom for the first 5 miles or so; I'm gonna do something about it soon; I'll post a fix once I find what it is. I really hope it's not the programmer 'cause it's a pain in the @ss to access, and expensive from what I have read doing searches here.

Thanks. It offered some helpful hints. Hopefully, it will prove to be the vacuum check valve. If not, sounds like I will have to compromise my back to look at this system.

For those interested in getting a new vacuum check valve, the part number is 14056648 (Got it from a message in the link above)

Also Check

Dont forget that the compressor has a switch that turns it off on acceleration. This switch may be at fault. From what some of you say the air will come on after you have been driving for a while. Thats what makes me think the compressor is in the performance mode (Shut Down) until the switch see's a steady throttle. Good luck with this one and please post the solution you find so others can know about it.:beer
