i cant get my new fuel pump on for the life of me. the face plate is just like the old one so there should be no reason it wont mate up. what the hell is the secret to getting it attached? its mechanical pump and that lever just wont give me enough clearance to get the bolt caught. ;help

The fuel pump rod slid down!!
See that 3/8's bolt with the 9/16 head about 1 1/2 in. in from the FP mounting plate??
You will have to remove it and get a longer one and raise the pump rod up and pin it there with the longer bolt finger tight so you can get the fuel pump arm under the rod!!:thumbWhen the pump is on remove the longer bolt and replace it with the original short bolt!!:thumb:thumb

Or you can put a gob of grease on the end of the FP push rod and that will stick it to the cam lobe long enuf to get the FP bolted on.

You probably did this already. But if you didn't, it might help to rotate the engine by tapping the starter until the fuel pump pushrod is as far up as it goes. This makes it easier to get the fuel pump arm under the push rod. And of course a bolt or gob of grease to hold it up as the others said. You can definately do it. Good luck.

I did this as well and worked great. Lubricate the whole rod....that just sounded weird didn't it?......:boogie

i got it done within minutes after learing about that rod. Not that bad of a job once you become familiar with it.

If you have a factory cam, setting the engine at #1 TDC on the compression stroke will place the pump rod on the base circle of its lobe on the cam; not always the case with aftermarket cams. :)
