My 78 Vette with Turbo 350 Trans is driving me crazy!

Last week I decided to toss the "Cheep-O" Taiwan Aluminum Trans pan and replace with my original Steel Pan because it would never seal right. Figured I'd also change the Manual Shifter Seal at the same time.

Followed the Shop Manual, info was good but could not view picture details as the pages have been copied so many times by the Vendors that they are just "Black Blobs".

Anyway took off pan, changed seal, put Steel Pan on with new gasket, filled with 6 pints of fluid and ran thru R-D-L2-L1 at idle. I could feel trans engage as I moved the shifter.

My problem is that I could not road test it until yesterday. Went to drive it and nothing happens. Vette won't move in R-D-L2-L1 at all. Checked that it will only start in P or R and that key can't be removed from R in run position like manual said.

What's going on wiith that???????????

Help BoBP

The fluid could have drained out of the torque converter and into the sump, rare, yes, but it did happen to me once when the tranny was very low on fluid. There is a procedeure to refill the converter, check your manual, then add the required amount of fluid.

How many miles on the car...? High mileage trannys don't like new oil. Trasmission oil is a great cleaner, high mileage clutches in an auto trans will be cleaned with the new fluid and slip or not shift properly as they are now shinny and worn, sometimes it's best to leave the dirt in there.
Did you clean your tranny pick up screen while you had it apart..? There are also some good suggestion above.
Good Luck
