Got into my Z06 this morning and the tilt steering was locked in the full up position. The steering wheel still turned and I was able to drive the car, just not very comfortable. It appears that the tilt release handle is not engaged, but rather moves with very little effort. I have reviewed all the great information on the column lock issue that plagues C5's, but it seems this issue only relates to the actual steering function. Any ideas?

Sorry Phil but it sure doesn't sound like a quick and easy fix. Sounds like something internal like a cog or a catch or something. I take it you're out of warranty?

HI there,
It is possible that the cog is locked in and may take more force than normal to release it.
It would be suggested to pull up or pull down on the steering wheel quite firmly, while attempting to pull the tilt lever.
If this does not work, you will have to disassemble the steering column.

Thanks for the replys. I found some information at Z06Vette.com that recommended pulling on the tilt steering lever and hitting the bottom of the steering wheel. Worked like a charm.

Thank goodness! Maybe administrators can sticky this one under tech tips. I'll remember the fix anyway. Thanks for the update! Might come in real handy someday for someone else.
