The whole issue of which exhaust system is the best ends up being very subjective. For a long time, I was trying to deduce by research which system would be best for me. I've come to the conclusion that this approach just doesn't work. There's no way to define specifically how bad a 'drone' is or how nice a revving growl sounds. You could measure db levels, but even that doesn't tell you much... a quieter but really annoying noise is worse than a louder but pleasant one.
So really what you need to do is find someone with a similar arrangement and get them to show it to you. If you dig on the sound, go for it. You need to hear it on the outside, and you need to hear it on the inside on the freeway. If you like it, go with it. But remember the interior resonance on the freeway is what you're going to have to live with for a long time, and that's the drawback. Make sure you can live with it.
In my case, I had pretty much decided on Corsa based on my research. But I still have never actually heard one (beyond their sound clips on their website). The folks around here mostly use Borla... and several have shucked their Corsas in favor of the newer Borla exhausts... and they seemed shocked that I'd want a Corsa over a Borla. They demonstrated the Borlas to me... I liked it. That's what's being installed on my car right now.
To my understanding, Borla has a newer exhaust system they're putting out now which is becoming very popular. Their older one had a ton of resonance and lost some torque for being too wide for a stock engine.
I'd say don't experiment and get an exhaust without hearing it first. Tastes vary so much that it's too likely you won't appreciate the results. Listen to a real one.
Besides.. you know it's so hard to convince a corvette owner to show off his car... *wink* You have to twist arms and stuff... :L
Oh yeah... and as to what makes the resonance so bad in a vette... that curved dome rear window is a hell of a reverberator. Combine that with the small interior space and weight saving thin barriers between the floor and the exhaust... and the vette thrums inside very easily.
This is _GREAT_ for your sound system. A vette can do fine with what would normally be a too small subwoofer because the interior of the car amplifies it so much. The interior of the vette is pretty good for acoustics when you're _trying_ to make sound.
