help with VIN#

According to the action center spec sheet for the 1982 vette the 8th number should be 6= engine type =L83. Is this possibly a misprint. The car I am about to buy has an 8 as the 8th #. Please help, I have to confirm purchase in the morning

The 8th number should be an 8. The 9th is a check digit and will vary.

All 82's were L-83's, and had an "8" as the 8th digit. ZBA was the Federal engine stamp pad suffix code, with ZBC for early California and ZBN for later California engines.

I just happened to stumble upon this thread. If you guys find an error in one of our Model Center pages, or any other page on the site here, please either email me or send me a private message so that I can take care of it ASAP.

I don't normally go through all of the tech forums - especially the C3 forum so I won't normally see something like this unless either I stumble upon it, or someone brings it to my attention.

The error has been fixed.
