I am ready to install a Hurst Shifter in my 80 vet. Can some one tell me if I have to remove the cross member to install it, and if I do what is involved to remove it? I know that I will have to drop the exhaust for access to the mount, but do I need to drop the cross member as well?

Thank you for your help

Joe.

If you are replacing a factory one with a factory one, the factory one mounts to the cross member along with a bracket (upright)

If you are installing one that mounts to the transmission, (and replacing a factory one) you will still need to removed the cross member to removed the aformentioned bracket.

I installed a Hurst Comp (+?) on my '76 with a ST-10. Hurst will supply instructions for your year install or go to the hurst site and download the instructions.

I did not need to remove the crossmember.

Yep, what he said.. I took all the bolts out of the shifter mount while sitting in driver seat, but the rubber boot was already gone.
