I have 84 c4 that hesitates when i try to accelerate in sharp curves. the car will almost die then pick back up again. I have replaced the fuel pump and stil have the problem. Also is there any disadvantage to pulling automatic transmission from overdrive to drive when going in a series of tight curves.

I have read in this forum that the C$'s need to have the gas tank over half full when doing hard corners. I think I read hat the fule pump starves for fuel if the level is less than half. Try doing your corners with a full tank to see if that helps. Having the pump starve for fuel (ie: sucking air) in hard corners would explain the cutout in the turn followed by recovery when you straighten out.

Give it a try,

In the past that has worked then the other day it did it to me with nearly a full tank. Maybe someone is trying to tell me something....slowdown

The fuel in the tank is a cooler for the pump itself. To my understanding if that is what is the case of it being a low tank a gas sloshing around in the tank, you may have damaged the fuel pump, just a guess though.

Mine does this, too. I believe it is fuel sloshing away from the pump, but have no fix, as yet. Maybe I can fashion a can to surround the pickup, which would act as a sump chamber for turns.

I heard but have not verified that the tank liner can warp. Any input?

Any suggestions on how this sloshing was corrected in later models?

Thanks. Mike

My buddys turbo TA has to my understanding little slots or something to prevent gas from sloshing like our cars do. Looks like other GM cars get all the breaks eh? lol.

My '82 does the same thing when nearly empty. I always watch the fuel guage bouncing up and down on anything but a full tank. Seems that GM would have put baffles on this tank, like they did with every other car, but they didn't.
I don't think they make replacement tank with baffles for the C3-C4 but it is possible to convert to a fuel cell if it is really a problem. As long as you replaced the fuel pump, might as well replace the gas filter too, just to be sure.
Also, no problem downshifting out of overdrive on the 7R400 transmission. More torque, HP in the curves = more control.
