you need a regular flathead screwdriver for the screws. your are right, counter clockwise is richer. count your turns and run the idle screws in until they LIGHTLY seat. you should be about equal on each side. then turn them out 1 turn. you will want to do the idle tuning with the engine hot, so go drive around the block a couple times to make sure it is up to regular operating temp before tinkering. with the air cleaner off to make it easier to reach the carb, start messing with the mixture screws. making equal turns to each screw (1/4 turn at a time), back them out until the rpms peak, then turn in 1/4 turn. if your rpms get above 1200, you need to re-set idle speed down to 700-800 and repeat idle mixture adjustment. this should get you close. if you mess up, you can always set it back to the original settings you got from closing the idle screws. if you are having a hard time getting it adjusted, pull the carb off and inspect the carb to intake gasket, they burn out from time to time. a bad gasket or leaky vacuum hose will really mess with idle mixture and make it lean.
