Recently, my unmodified 1985 4+3 was having some serious drivability issues. It got to the point where it would not run. After some investigation, I came to the conclusion that my fuel pressure regulator was at fault. I had fuel in the vacuum line of the regulator. After replacing the diaphram, the engine started right up. I decided to hook up the fuel pressure guage and see what the pressure was running. I expected to see somewhere in the 39 psi range. Much to my surprise the guage was showing 70 psi!!! This can't be right. The engine seems to idle just fine and run smooth. It has to be a faulty guage, right? I left the guage on the fuel rail for about a half hour after shutting down the engine and the pressure had dropped down to 50psi. Any ideas on what I should be looking at. Thanks in advance.

First I'd check the gage. I had 35psi with the vac. disconnected.
and had to push it up to 45. so if it's really 70 thats way to much you might have a blocked return line.
