High Idle and ticking noise?????

Just went for a cruise and after a few minutes I noticed my idle was high as I stopped at a light (1200rpm), the performance seemed to be a little down.

The other thing I noticed is a ticking sound louder than normal under the hood, I don't think it's the rockers but I did jst adjust them a few weeks ago, the injectors sound OK too.

Does anybody have any suggestions, are these two events related?

Im not sure about the high idle but what about the lifters? How long did it tick? And how long was the idle up?

The idle seemed to come back down after a few minutes, but the noise was still there, I also changed the fuel preasure regulator to an adjustable one could this be making a noise?Thanx

The high idle and performance may be tied to your adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Did you follow the adjustment procedure and set stock pressure? You might have too much fuel, from too-high pressure. Dunno if a higher pressure will make the injectors tick more loudly.

Thanks WhalePirot, I will check the AFPR my FP guage went south on me last night, so mI need to get a new one.

I have done the screwdriver stethascope thing and the valve seem OK (What the hell do I know though ).

When I rev it the noise does speed up and I think there is an injector that sounds louder than some of the others.

Do you measure the fuel preasure with the Vaccum hose off or on the AFPR??

Mine is about 50 with the V hose off and 38 with it on.

Does this sound right.

i have mine set to 47-48lbs. with the vacuum line off seems to give me the
best performance
