It seems to be the fuel pump or something in that area. Has anyone encountered this before?

thanks

all the belts were replaced when the water pump was replaced.

Not my Vette, but my 99 Silverado Pickup does that. I'm sure it's the fuel pump. First one started doing that so I replaced it. Within a year the new pump was doing it...I just left it. Does it off and on for the last year and a half or so. I'm not worrying about it until it starts giving me other symptoms.

It the whine in the front of the car or back??:confused

When I had my C5 I had that sound. At one of the Cruisefest in Bowling Green, Paul (c4c5specialist) heard it and told me it was the fuel pump. The sound was comming from the area behind the drivers seat. The hotter the temperature outside the louder the noise was. I had the noise for 1 1/2 to 2 years with no problem.

that is exactly where it comes from. Drives me crazy and it only happens when the weather is hot. There must some fix somewhere like replacing the pump with an aftermarket one.

thanks

C5s had a chronic problem with fuel pump whine.

Some cars have it worse than others and the severity of the noise beyond the "standard level" of noise which is already annoying to some might be dependant fuel pump condition.

But, better be sure you can't live with the noise because the cost of dropping the left tank to change the pump is a bit high.

Does the sound get louder as the fuel level drops below one-half? I noticed my fuel pump whine was much louder when the fuel level gets between one-half and one-quarter. I now never let the fuel level get below one-half. Good luck.

I noticed that also as well as the hotter it was outside, the louder the noise. I am at the point where it is fix it by replacing it or muffle it somehow.

The early C5 model years had more whiney FPs that later models. I thought they changed to a quieter pump in '99, but not sure. My ol' '98 whines once in awhile, but not really noticable to me anymore and it doesn't do it all the time either. It's nothing I can't live with for sure. If it didn't whine ocassionally, I think I'd be more worried! :L
