Hello,

My name is Arthur and I have a few questions:

What is the highest milaege callaway corvette?

What are the major milaege milestones? 10k, 25k, 50k, 100+k eyc.

What are the major service requirements at key milaege points?

WHAT ABOUT CARS THAT HAVE SAT UNDRIVEN FOR 10+years?

WHAT GOES BAD? RUBBER HOSES, COMPUTERS, SUSPENSION POINTS, ETC!

AS THE CARS TURN THE CORNER FROM "USED CARS OF ENTHEUSIESTS" TO COLLECTOR CARS WHAT IS THE STORY ON ALL THE ABOVE?

MAY WE ALL "WALK THE LINE" BETWEEN SURVIVOR AND RESTORATION CARS.

AND FOR THE GRAND FINALLY, WILL CALLAWAY OPEN A RESTORATION/UPGRADE SERVICE?

Look forward to any and all comments.

Regards,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

I'll try to address some of these questions...

Hello,

My name is Arthur and I have a few questions:

What is the highest milaege callaway corvette?
There are a couple in Northern California that I know have well over 125K without any major issues. There maybe be others but while I was looking at one car, the person showing the car was a mechanic and he maintains several Callaway Twin Turbos in the Northern California area.

There is one owner in San Fran that races his car on a regular basis and one in the DC area that goes on Rallies regularly that I am aware of. Again, there are probably others that I am not aware of.

What are the major milaege milestones? 10k, 25k, 50k, 100+k eyc.

In what respect? Collectability, Value, Driveability? Knowing that these cars are quite rare, mileage may not have much of a bearing on their value as long as they are properly maintained. For example, the Sledgehammer (1 of 1), mileage would not matter.

What are the major service requirements at key milaege points?
The depends on how that cars are driven. Again, I have heard of cars in Northern California with <100K Miles and no major rebuilds.

WHAT ABOUT CARS THAT HAVE SAT UNDRIVEN FOR 10+years?
That depends on how they were prepared for storage. Generally I would be concerned with fuel injectors, fuel pump, AC compressor seals, and similar items which may have long term storage implications.

WHAT GOES BAD? RUBBER HOSES, COMPUTERS, SUSPENSION POINTS, ETC!
Generally wear and tear items. Also, heat is a major factor which affects things like hoses. Turbo Lubrication is critical hence the CTTC is one of the few cars which I have seen whose turbos are both water and oil cooled, so these hoses should be addressed with age and mileage.

AS THE CARS TURN THE CORNER FROM "USED CARS OF ENTHEUSIESTS" TO COLLECTOR CARS WHAT IS THE STORY ON ALL THE ABOVE?
I don't know how to answer that but in my case...
I bought my CTTC in 2001 with 10K mi. It was so addictive that I drove the heck out of it. By 2004 I had about 26K on the odometer. I did take it to Callaway for some upgrades and all new lines, hoses, etc. Now I it has much more power and have not been driving it as much until I get a Brake option.

MAY WE ALL "WALK THE LINE" BETWEEN SURVIVOR AND RESTORATION CARS.

AND FOR THE GRAND FINALLY, WILL CALLAWAY OPEN A RESTORATION/UPGRADE SERVICE?
Part of what helped form the Callaway Owners Group was the desire to restore and upgrade these cars. Since the formation of our group, Callaway has made available parts which were no longer in production like the Big Wonderbar, and the Megaphone exhaust. So restoration and upgrades are generally not an issue. I took mine to Callaway in 2004 for complete restoration to Callaway specs plus upgrades.

With that said, timing may be an issue for someone wanting them to do a complete restoration. They are now VERY FULL with C6 cars so time to bring in a Twin Turbo is something that you will have to work out with them but otherwise it should not be an issue.

As said, there are a few cars with over 100k, some with close to 150k :cool

On the other end of the spectrum, there are cars close to new. Either car could have issues of dry hoses that need to be replaced, etc. from the high turbo heat and time. Not a big deal, as Callaway Cars has everything, or can make it. Trust me, I had this done on my one 1989 Callaway TT - it has ~31k mi.

It is always hard to say what the market will turn out for the long term, but a Callaway has all the "right stuff" :upthumbs Limited production, high power output, and killer looks!

Look at a car like a Dodge Daytona (1969) or the Plymouth Superbird (1970). In ANY condition, the car holds STRONG value. In nice shape, even more.

A driver Daytona on its worst day, is still close to a $100,000 in the market right now. An original car in no matter the shape, brings big money in that class as well, restored cars, not much more - if any. As they say, you can only be original once ;shrug

Callaway Cars is still here to support the owners - we are very luck in that regard.

Good luck with the car(s) you are considering. :beer
