Hints on installing lower radiator hose on an 85 ?

I spent 4 hours trying to put on a new lower radiator hose on my 85. I couldn't get it to hook up to the block, and with my hands cut and bleeding I gave up and went in to watch football, anybody have any hints/tips for installing this SOB. Even the shop manual is no help. Thanx in advance for anybody's help

Did you get the correct hose? Plugging it to the water pump should be easy.
