Hi fellow corvette lovers
My Corvette C5 is imported from the US
i'm curious about the history it has in the US whitch website is the best To check this?

Gr. Herbert

Not sure exactly what information you are looking for? Previous owners, service history, wrecks, options....? Previous owners would be a crap shoot, but a Carfax report might let you know How Many owners a car has had as well as some service history. If you are looking for information about your car, you should have a label on the console lid or the glove box door which has all the option codes that your car left the factory with. Decoding those RPO codes can be done here (example of 2001)

Corvette Action Center | Model Center | C5 | 2001 | 2001 Corvette Regular Production Option Codes (RPOs)

Here are the ones for 1999

You can also get a hold of your local GM service department. They can get you a VIS report. This will tell you anything that's been done to it (warranty, recalls, etc). I don't know if it's just the GM dealers records or not. My buddy at GM give's me a report on every GM I've bought (he pulls the records before I've bought them so I'd know what I was getting myself in to), and it's had everything right down to the oil changes and windshield wiper replacements beginning from the cars production date, date of service, business that did repair, miles, everything.

It's like a Carfax, but instead of wrecks and owners, it consists of the service records. Pretty cool I think!

Just did the carfax report and what a bomber
seems that the OD reading is reset

Ownership History
The number of owners is estimated Owner 1 Owner 2 Owner 3

Year purchased 1999 2002 2002
Type of owner Personal Personal Personal
Estimated length of ownership 2 yrs. 6 mo. 2 months 9 yrs. 10 mo.
Owned in the following states/provinces Georgia Florida See Details
Estimated miles driven per year --- --- 18,531/yr
Last reported odometer reading --- 8,000 191,373

OD reading at this time is 88,451

Since it appears that the odometer has been replaced with one that had less miles on it and that fact was not disclosed to you by the seller, you should contact INTERPOL and let them know that you are the victim of fraud on an international basis. You can also contact the state police in the state where the seller is from and initiate a fraud investigation on this end. It is illegal in all 50 states to replace an odometer and sell the vehicle without disclosing the true mileage of the vehicle. Especially when the true mileage is more than double what it was represented to be. Make sure you retain all paperwork (e-mails, advertising, etc..) from the sale to show what the seller told you about the mileage.

My car is not in the States but in the Netherlands. Now I have to find out if the fraud happened before or after shipping. Any suggestions??

Did you buy it from Ebay or auction? If the mileage listed was incorrect, you may have a case for fraud.

To help, who did you buy the car from, someone here in the US or someone in the Netherlands?

I bought the Corvette here in the Netherlands by a car Dealer.
I am the second owner and on the inspection paper the new OD Reading is listed.

10/28/2012 Vehicle Exporter Vehicle exported from
Houston, TX
and imported to
The Netherlands

From all the paperwork you have, can you tell when the mileage was changed?

I would go to the dealer where you bought it and show him the car fax report.

Tomorrow I will call the customs and ask if they put the mileage on the export/import paper, if the original mileage is on that paper I can proof that the fraud is made by the dealer. If it came with the new mileage it happened at the vehicle exporter. Is there a way to find out who exported the car?

There are forms which must be filled out.

However, I do not know if mileage is required. 19 CFR 192.2 - Requirements for exportation.

Here in the US, when selling a vehicle, we must sign a document stating to the best of our knowledge the mileage on the odometer is correct. I do not know if that is true in every state; but in the 6 states I have lived in it was required.

Herbert, I would start with the dealer where you bought the vehicle. You bought a vehicle believing it had 88K and it has a lot more so you did not get what you paid for.

I will go to the dealer and I think I will bring it back, I sold him my Corvette C4 from 1985 and get it back. You are absolutely right. I did not get what I payed for. I didn't buy this one to drive it fora year or two.... My C4 I owned for 19 years.

I just realized your car was imported FROM the United States. I thought you had it imported TO the US, which I thought was odd....why's a guy buying a Vette and bringing it here?? Why not just get one that's here already?? I'm on the same page now!

You should be able to do a title history search also. The name of the previous owner will be on the title you have. Of course, it will show the dealers name, but THEY will have a copy of the title form where they got it, which will have the previous owner on THAT one. At least here in the states it is. There is also a title number. The title number will be different on each owners title.

Maybe you can call Texas Department of Motor Vehicles with the title number, and start back tracking it? I've done it here in the states before and was able to go back 16 years and 4 owners.

Not sure if any of this will help!

I just talked with my buddy here at GM. I gave him your VIN, and he's going to get me a VIS report tomorrow. :thumb When I get it, I'll scan it in my computer and email it to you. That's the best I'll be able to help :beer

Thank you so much Aaron, maybe he can find out if the mileage is listed on the export file. :Steer
