Hood insulation

Anyone know how important it is to have the hood insulation is it for sound deadening or heat protection for the hood paint.

The insulation is usually left off and repainted to look nice, however, I put new insulation on mine. The engineers must of known something when they designed these cars. The seal on the windshield end is very important since it keeps the hot air from going into the air pick-ups in the cowl area.

Correct. GM had to meet drive-by noise levels and that brought about the end of open element air cleaners and the addition of under hood insulation.
