Is this the normal 81 hood. Pretty interesting as far as the air flow. I don't even know if that flap thing works or where to start to try and test it out. I don't think it was even plugged in until I did it myself.

mines not like that. I have no idea what that thing is at the bottom.

From the photo's I would say you have a 1982 hood on your 1981 ;)

The little thing at the bottom of the hood opens the air passage for the crossfire injection on the 1982 Corvette.

82 Cross fire injection Hood

The hood is from an "82 Crossfire car....The solenoid opens up @ WOT to allow more air to the Injectors

Wow...very very interesting. I've been wondering about this car. I had a theory that at 1 point it was an 82. See, I'm almost positive that the car was once stolen as the VIN # is a state issued one and it does not look as though its ever been in an accident. Plus, the Tach says Crossfire on it. I was told it was replaced to match the upgrades in the engine.

I've also been very suspicious of this red paint that's on the back and wasn't done so well. I've been thinking that it may have been a hatch back at one point and they closed it up or something.

OR, it could all just be coincidences. Thanks for the info...the invesitigation continues!

The 81 has a carb and the 82 is fuel injected. 81 was the last year a carb was used on a corvette. The term crossfire refered to the crossfire fuel injection system. You appear to have an 82 model.

Yeah, I know about the crossfire stuff. But mine has a Carb. Although they could have been removed and replaced. It has an Edlebrock Performer intake and a 600 Holley Card w/Electronic Choke and headers w/2 Cats & mufflers. I don't know what else if any and/or what models they all are. It was sold to me as an 81, and all the paperwork he gave me claims the same.

Already tried...no one has any info on it because it's not a standard 17 digit VIN # and was a state issued VIN as I think is was once stolen.

I think I need to try and get the tank sticker or something.

You can run a 81's Vin on carfax. Anything newer should work too. I forget what year they converted tho.

Yeah, I know an 81 VIN should work, but mine is not standard. It was retagged in both tag spots with this new State issued VIN #. I think from Indiana. So, can't get any info from that unfortunately! :-(

hmmmmm very interesting indeed. The tank sticker might be your only hope. On my drivers side door there is a tag stating the date of manufacture, maybe yours is still there?
