Hot Cam Question?

While the LT1 heads don't flow as much as the LT4 heads, they aren't as maxed out as the person you talked to thinks they are. If the heads were that maxed out, 1.6 rockers would produce no more power than 1.5's, and any cam you install would only produce power from duration, not lift... Even with only factoring duration, the 2033 should make more than 8 HP.

Don't get me wrong here, more duration will lead to more power with an LT1 with stock heads, but it tends to 'square off' the cam and lead to premature valve train failure. And of course, aftermarket heads will be better, but cost big bucks...

The Z28 guys had the standard mods besides the cams... underhood ram air, bigger TB, and exhaust

I've seen LT1's pick up over 40 RWHP with stock untouched heads and the LT4 Hotcam kit... so the heads aren't that restrictive.

heads not maxed out?

You both have me wondering now. My LT1 sure did respond to
the increase lift of roller rockers. But 40rwhp sounds a bit high
unless it was a REALLY wild cam. Even Hot cam + 1.6 roller rockers would be a stretch...

Afterall, the LT4 with ported intake and LT4 Hot cam gained 30rwhp at the top end. That's with the superior LT4 heads.

Thank you both for all your help. I'm going to do a little searching
for dyno. info for specific cams. I want something independent
of the manufacturer though--to avoid bias.

There is a guy over on the corvette forum with a 92 LT1, with just the hotcam kit he picked up 44 HP (with tuning) I know a couple locals who picked up 40. Exhaust gave him 25 and heads gave him another 30.

The LT4 picks up 30, but it already has the roller rockers on it, the LT1 has more to gain because they don't. If you already have RR's, I wouldn't expect over 25-30.
