Well, the air conditioning from Hot Rod Air has now been in for almost a week and I am pleased to announce that the temperature here in Tulsa has started reaching its normal near 100 degrees. The Air conditioning has absolutely no problems cooling the cabin in the vette. I have noticed a slightly higher temperature on the engine temp guage when idling in traffic, but nothing to be worried about. The installation was fairly simple, and if anyone wants, I can post some pics of it. The only problem areas are that when the hood is open, the right front corner of the hood rests on the receiver dryer, so I have to be very careful opening the hood and the passenger side spar of the hood had to be cut to clear the suction line fitting to the compressor. A noticable issue is also one I had with a vintage air product which also uses the Sanden compressor is that at about 3500 rpm and above, there is an audible whine or howl type of sound, but it does not appear to have any effect on the operation of the system.
As a side note to all of this, I also installed an Edelbrock Nitrous Oxide plate system (100 Hp shot), and can post pics of that too, if anyone would be interested.

Cheers All

Richard

thinking about that for my 1970. Any extra parts needed. I got the instructions from Hot Rod Air. Seems to be pretty basic, I assume you had to buy the pulley and belts seperatly?

Are these the guys in San Antonio??
Are they any good with factory systems, I would like to re-do the system but keep it original.

Thanks for the info.....

Vintage Air are in San Antonio, but I believe they do not make a kit for our cars. Hot Rod Air are in Dallas (almost as hot). The only things I had to buy were a belt, silicone ultra black, a couple of cans of R-134a, and a switch (my addition).
I am working on getting the photos hosted, then I will post some pictures.

Cheers

Richard

I am also interested in this info.
Did you have to cut a hole in the tranny tunnel?

According to Vintage Air, you need to cut a hole in the tranny tunnel for the AC box under the dash.

When I called Hot Rod Air, they said their system does not require the hole in the tranny tunnel.

Dsagers, there was no cutting required anywhere using the hot rod air system. Although, there was an interference issue when the hood was closed with the suction line fitting on the compressor. I resolved this with a 1" by 2" notch in the passenger side hood bracing.Cheers

Richard
