My 89c4 will not start after it has been run for a couple of miles or more:confused,I have to wait up to an hour or more before she fires up.Have installed new leads, cap, plugs and battery along with a new gas filter, any advice would be most welome, thanks.

Cranks, but no start after hot soak? Is this a new issue? Check fuel pressure levels and spark. If OK, I would pull a few plugs and see if they are wet and/or smell like raw gasoline. You may have leaking injectors. You can also measure the resistance of each injector to see if they if they are within specifications. If you search this forum you will find plenty of good ideas. How did you make out on the heating issue?

Maybe it's the starter. I have experienced such a fault one's, and it was the starter. Funny that, but it wasn't a Corvette though :eyerole

TedC.I took out two plugs yesterday and they were dry in good condition as nearly new, also spark good and strong. Will check resistance on injectors next,is it 16 ohms?heating issue still unresolved due to awful weather(have to work on car in street)very frustrating but hope to get everything fixed soon.I have very small petrol leak from rear of car but i'm sure pressure is ok as you can hear hiss when gas tank cap unscrewed and there is pressure at fuel rail.
Cheers,Brian

When it does start, while still kind of cold, does it have good power? Does it take off if you floor it? Can you take it someplace where you can floor it and keep it down for 10 seconds or more - and does it keep the power up the entire time? I have hot start problems too and I will try this, as soon as the %$#$ snow melts, and the roadway isn't too slippery.

Hi,car has good power and takes off when floored.Rough idle but does not stall now I have fitted new battery.I have just checked injectors looking for 16 ohmns resistance but 5 injectors came back with a resistance of half or less than that.I think this could be a major part of my problem.Good luck with your injectors and your weather.
Brian.

English Guy, Yes 16 ohm. Each bank (right or left) has 4 injectors wired in parallel. Having 5 injectors pulling only 8 ohms is going to cause issues with the ECM. I would disconnect a few of these lower reading injectors and see if it starts.

HI TED C,I made a mistake I have 4 not 5 injectors with poor readings(7.3/8.4 on drivers side and 8.6/5.6 on the other)unplugged these and car fired up no problem, idled rough but did'nt stall so I replugged injectors and drove one mile round the block and she pulled well enough but wanted to stall as i pulled up at junctions.Looks like i'll be asking santa for some new injectors this year, shame he can't fit them for me!Best wishes,
Brian

English Guy, Looks like you have isolated the starting issue. The ECM can't pulse the injectors properly if the overall resistance on either bank drops too low. With four hooked up together, just one bad injector can cause this. It is my understanding that the injector type used in 1989 depends on the flow of gasoline to cool the injector coil and is exposed. In 1989, GM eliminated the cold start injector, so you only need 8 new injectors. Keep us posted. Also, make sure you replace these injectors with similar flow rate injectors.

HI TED C,I was hoping to replace only the 4 worn out injectors as the rest are all reading a healthy 16 ohms or is this a bad idea?when I order new injectors from corvette America will the flow rate be standard for car's year and engine type(89 L98)?Good to have your advice, many thanks
Brian

I would replace all 8. Effort is pretty much the same because you need to remove the rails. If 4 went bad, how long will the other 4 last? Plus, having all 8 being new and of the same specifications will maximize performance. Spend the time and research this topic using the internet and seaching this forum. You will find many options, and I feel you will find a cost affordable set of 8 injectors.

when I order new injectors from corvette America

Get them from Jon (FIC)
Has glowing recommendations from many people across the Vette Forums. Knows his stuff and outstanding service.
I don't think you will beat his price for new or rebuilt

I think I'm gonna be needing injectors soon too, can you post or PM me Jon's contact info? He may have already emailed me but it got lost in the upgrade.
Thanks

Replace Injectors

I have been following this thread and called John FIC. Long story short I purchased a set of yellow 22 lb. Bosch 3 injectors. He explained these are the best choice for my 1988 Vette. I would highly recommend FIC to anyone who is interested.

Donald;)
