I know that Corvette America sells rebuild kits for the C1 steering box....I am contemplating just putting the car back together for the summer and pulling it back apart in the late fall.....one of the things that needs attention is the steering gear box. It has some slop in it, what if I don't rebuild it (afterall the rebuild kit is $450) and just live with the front steering slightly sloppy? or am I asking for trouble? Probably won't put more than 500 to 750 miles on the car this summer and it won't go any distance greater than 40 miles one way at a time.
I am holding off doing more because I really think that maybe the best bet for me is to go the full frame and C5 front and C4 rear. The motor is at the speed shop becoming a 383 stroker (it was a 350)....so, comments on the stock....I would like to drive it this summer on nice days just to tool around in it...so that would mean getting the motor back and putting it in the car....enjoying the car as it is....and then getting after it this summer....so comments on the rebuild or not......
