i dont know how to check the tranny fluid in a 88" 4+3..can anybody tell me? thanks for any replies.

I assume you mean the overdrive unit. The gearbox itself is no different than any other (previously) Borg Warner Super T10 (Doug Nash owed it when he was building them for GM, now Richmond does.) Just pull the plug and fill it to that level.

The overdrive unit has no easy method to check the fluid level. You must pull the transmission pan and replace the fluid. The only maintenance required for the DN overdrive was to change the oil and filter every 25,000 miles or so.

i should of asked..where is the plug? i cant seem to find it after climbing under the car and searching for a half hour. if i do find the plug, and manage to get it out do i just stick my finger in the hole and feel for fluid? if its down i guess u just top it up?

man i feel :silly askin this stuff..

Oops! There is a way to check the fluid level. Shoulda got the book out in the first place. :o

You'll probably get a better response in the C4 Technical Discussions forum than in The Edge, 88.

Though it looks like Ken has all ready hooked you up.:)

ken dont worry bruh its ez to forget knowledge when u have so much knowledge stord u know! but as far as the od unit on the 4+3: the fill plug is on the drivers side of the od unit just about 2 inches above where the od oil pan meets the case. i think it takes either a 5/8 or 3/4 open end wrench but best results is with a long cresent wrench cause sometimes there in tight!
use a quart of dextron 3 trans fluid . i used a nipple/cap from a gear oil bottle and a 3ft long piece of 3/8 fuel/vacuum hose to fill mine. top it off untill it runs out , if u dont yet have the filter kit to change it. if when it overflows and the fluid is knda dis colored just continueto squeez in new fliuid until the fluid starts to come out bright red. then reinstall the plug.
