How do you remove the shift knob on a 2002 6 speed? Does it screw off? I didn't want to put too much torque on it.

No you have to pop off the shift pattern thingy and then remove the pin. Then it screws off.

Once you pull the cap off with a flathead, get a visegrip, clamb on that sucker (the little pin in the middle), and pull up... Torque will be required to do the job,

Whatever you do, do not break the pin, it could be a long day after that...

I used slipring pliers to get mine out. The tip of the pliers is bent 90 degrees. I slipped the ends under the tabs on the forward edge of the pin and pried it out gently. It is a PITA trying to use vise grips and other things but others have had luck with them.
