In other words, how long will the 6th generation be in production? My guess is a short run of 4 years.

I think 7 will do it. GM will have rung the profit out of it and move on to the next new thing.

Hi C6 Dawg,
Merry Christmas. Have a concern about my new week old C6. She's got about 250 miles on her and this morning I noticed tiny oil specks all over the back of the car, tag, etc. What does this mean for me? I hope it's just part of the break in period.

I would apreciate any thoughts you have.

The C2.5 (C3) lasted from 68-82. I think C5.5 (C6) will last for a long while.

If my memory serves me well, I swear that I read here that they're anticipating a run similar to the mid years, which would be 5 years. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 6-7 years.

My guess would be 8-10 years. I think the C6 will be around longer than the C5 was.

I voted for 5 yrs. I think GM needs to let it run long enough to make some profit. However, the car market is getting very competative, so they won't be able to let it run for very long without making changes to keep up with the competition. I also think the next change will be a typical GM update===they'll just give it a minor face lift and a few tweaks here and there and call it the C7.

i dont know how long but ,

I personally think they should bring back a chrome bumper on the rear end.maybe it will help get rid of the chopped off look from the side , and add a sweet new dimension to the rear view.

my 2 cents worth.

It might just be road stuff. Can you get a good look at the underside of the car and check for leaks? You might check the tailpipes, too, but it is unlikely that it's spitting any rich chunks.

With technology changing at a light speed pace, I am afraid that the C6 will be every changing. It might make 6 years, but I doubt it. Look at how far ahead the Z06 is already.

Can't say what the oil specks might be from ...(probably the road grim) My C5 gets tons of sh!t on the rear of the car from road grim...

I wouldn't worry...

Wash it off and watch for the next few months..

Enjoy!

I saw a C6 with 300 miles at my dealer. The rear-end (differential) was leaking.

300 miles? That is either a lot of test drivers or someone is taking the car home at the end of the day. I remember when the C6 first came out. My buddy and I went down to the local Chevy dealer just to take a peak at it. We saw this C6 go by and it was nice. We get to the Chevy dealership, saw a beautiful Z16 Z06 and a salesman approached us. We started talking and we asked if they had any of the new Vette's in. He said, "No, the sales manager took it home for the night."

Why would I want to buy a car that they're taking home for personal use?

It was a customer's car just days old.

Supposedly the c6 platform is exceptionally well engineered. I suspect this frame and basic suspension set-up will be around quite a while. Look for cosmetic changes and performance tweaks, hp up-grades, and weight reductions to be the "changes" for the next seven years. How about a LS-7 available in the convertible in 2006 for a headline grabbing anouncement? Mercedes and Viper put big engines in their ragtops....

I see the same thing on my '71 LT-1. I believe it's carbon buildup being discharged through the exhaust, although you have cat's. Maybe you're running a little rich?

Something about the color (Nevada Silver) that seems to be a magnet for dirt. It's almost like there's a static charge in the paint.

I also attract a lot of bugs, which will land on the car even as I'm washing it, although that could be due to the polish I use.

It will be a while, because the market for the C6 will be strong. Why should GM put money into it if it's selling well?

They didn't put a dime in C5 and I expect the same for C6 (paint schemes and wheels don't go far with me, nor do suspension tweeks--a major upgrade would have been to the body panels--specifically--the big butt could have been addressed)
