How Many Model Years Will The C6 Be In Production?

Accordinging to Dave Hill's comments on the Instructional DVD, the C6 is suppose to be produced for the next 8-10 years. Whether that was his wish or chevy's is unclear. I would think the hardware will change like the C3 did.

300 miles? That is either a lot of test drivers or someone is taking the car home at the end of the day. I remember when the C6 first came out. My buddy and I went down to the local Chevy dealer just to take a peak at it. We saw this C6 go by and it was nice. We get to the Chevy dealership, saw a beautiful Z16 Z06 and a salesman approached us. We started talking and we asked if they had any of the new Vette's in. He said, "No, the sales manager took it home for the night."

Why would I want to buy a car that they're taking home for personal use?
I am amused by the online auction listings for C6's with anywhere from 1500 to 3000 miles on "new untitled cars". They try to get MSRP or more for these cars and then sell them as if they are essentially new. The joyriding, burnouts, missed power shifts, side stepped clutches, and panic stops are freebies! Now, I know that the C6 is built strong and well engineered. However, I agree with you, why buy a "new" car that has been driven a considerable number of miles by other people? I can imagine the abuse potential in just 300 miles. I believe in driving a performance car hard but abuse can break anything. Most vette owners take reasonable car of their cars. However, I don't feel this way about miles put on by dealers or during test rides. If such cars were deeply discounted perhaps but not otherwise.

I wouldn't mind it if the car was run hard but I would prefer to do it myself! :D

I think it will run a long time but will evolve year after year until the bugs are ironed out just like it happened with the C5 starting in 1997...they finally got most of the bugs out...then changed to a C6:L...and especially with the controversey over the front license plate...I think they will solve this problem quick or they will surely lose lots of potential buyers...:D

Four years is too much!!

Hi
l have decided that the C6 as it stands today will wind up being a low point in vette history no matter what it has to offer.

It is a awesome looking machine, the fit and finish has never been better thanks to the Cadillac Div. The horsepower is awesome, but it is missing something that all the other vettes had.

Right now it's hard to put a finger on it but having a finger on the pulse of used cars more then new cars, l would say it's a gut feeling.

My gut feeling is saying that in the next few months if used car prices on the C5's stop their slide and rebound, the C6 will be doomed. This will tell me that the new C6 even ass refined as it is, is no longer America's sweetheart.

There is a point where a sportscar crosses the line and becomes a luxury sportscar and this is not what we fell in love with.

An example is the Mercedes convertible (not the slk or clk) it is a beautifull machine, made well and has all the creature comforts that a car has to offer.
But would you take it to a drag strip, wear old jeans or shorts with an old tee shirt. Think about working on it, adding personel touches, nope because it needs nothing but to drive.
One more thing how many of them have a manual tranny?

This has nothing to do with the cost factor except the Z-06. Being that it's the same size as the 911 and (Z-06) as costly, why not get a Porsche.

The average age of vette owners is rising to a point where it will no longer appeal to the youth.

Sorry l left something out, when l bring in my Jaguar in to be serviced l get a loaner and l'm catered to just like a Mercede's dealership. If l have to wait for something quick l can play on the web, watch TV have something to eat, drink or play virtual golf in a magnificent waiting room plus they clean it both inside and out.
When l bring my vette in all l get is to sit in a dingy waiting room with utdated magazines. If they have a loaner it would take up to 3 wks to get one if l was lucky.

Magazine Corvette!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their last issue had a very interesting article where they interviewed 5 important designers and asked them their opinions on the C6.

All agreed that they loved the performance. None of them liked the front lights but conceded that in Europe the flip up lights are not allowed for pedestrian safety. That l can see but still don't like them. And they thought that GM could have done a better job with the front lights as far as size. They said the front lights look like they are squinting, but this can be changed fast.

They were in total agreement that the nose was it's weakest point and that it resembled an early 90's Camaro and emulating (poor job) of the new Porsche.

The good news is that they said that the cheapest and easiest thing to change is the front and rear ends. And they do believe it will be done sooner rather then later.

The feed back from their readers leans toward not liking the C6 opposed to liking the C5 when it came out. Not that they were crazy about the C5.

A funny comment was that they considered the C6 to be nothing more then a C5 & 1/2.

So if GM changes the front end then the C6 will run for 6-8 years.

p.s. Originally l voted for 4 years.

Hey big Al...suggestion:...sell your Vette(its a fossil anyway:D ) and go back to your Jag and entertainment center/dealership...

I would rather sit in a bucket of wheelbearing grease and watch kids crap all over the floors at a dealership waiting for my Corvette to be worked on than own a gaguar and sit in an entertainment center hobnobbing with the so called elite:L :L :L

For me, functionality takes importance over looks. If it's acceptable in the looks department and great in the functionality department, I'll go for it.

I'm sure the front was designed with more functionality than looks in mind. They've managed to lower the drag so much, you can't have your cake and eat it too!:L:L:L

Hey Kingman, you have some interesting ideas. I don't agree with all but good food for thought. If I buy a C6 it will be Z51 and 1sa ONLY. Heck, the C6 is a luxury car in base trim. What does a touch screen have to do with a Corvette? Or a , as I prefer to call it, Head Up Display. I shift by sound and feel not where the tach needle is sitting. And watching the lateral G forces? If you can watch it then you're not really driving the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The C6 is not ELEMENTAL. It's got so many frills added on the brute force of the engine and chassis is obscured. GM needs the equivalent of the "fixed roof coupe" concept for the C6. Take out some of the bells and whistles. Put vinyl seats in the car and a less powerful stereo. Make the roof solid like the new Z06 and make Z51 standard.

Such a version of the C6 would seem to me more like the vettes of old instead of an old men's vette.

What I'd really like is a brand new 1967 427 with 400 hp and 4 speed. Yup, not the 435. I'd choose a car you can actually enjoy driving. Or even better yet a 1965 396. Brand new though. I am really tired of paying for the abuse of others on their cars.

I agree with you and think the front view of the C6 is rather insipid. The rear is not actually ugly as I felt is the case with the C5. The plate frame is just plain stupid. However, look at the rear of the new SRT10 viper to see a decent rear end. Why can't GM do that? What's the problem anyway? Run out of clay?

From the side I really like the C6. Kinda retro etc. As for low point....I respectfully disagree with you. Low point? hmmmmmmm........1975 to 1978.

I just read a review of the new "firepower" . If it was available NOW I'd buy it instead of a C6. I think the styling is FAR FAR superior. Lots of competition now for the vette relative to years past. Even the little tuner cars like cobalt are as fast as my old 68 camaro 396. Of course, the cobalt is just plain ugly, plain, and foolish looking. But then, I am not a young man anymore. If I was perhaps I'd like it. I suppose I wouldn't even laugh at the ridiculous wing.

I doubt that C5 prices will be going up for several decades. It was just the test bed for the C6 and the present C6 is probably just the test bed for the "improved" C6 that might come out prior to a new model.

It's all marketing strategy.

Cannot Argue with you!

Oldgoat

The model years 74-82 were the low point performance wise, but the bodies were, maybe your right, l'm wrong.

One point for the "OLDGOAT". Take one from "KINGMAN".

I voted for 8 years. That was the run for the C5 and I think it was supposed to be the run for the C4.

As for the discussion about the C6 turning into a luxo sport, I agree that the touch screen and some other amenities are not needed. Those types of things are not exactly performance oriented. But somebody wanted them.

I really like the rear of the C6. I think it's more agressive than the C5.

And the premium pricing for the C6 Z06, well they sold over 6,000 ZR-1's at quite a premium over base and without any race history. The new Z06 is supposed to share some of the C6-R's technology and there will always be people willing to pay a premium. Sure the front of the C6 could use some tweaks, but if I had the money I'd buy a Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic Z06 tomorrow!

Just my .02 or less :D

"I really like the rear of the C6. I think it's more agressive than the C5"

:confused ...whats agressive rear even mean:confused .....a flatter more square rear end means agressive?.......:W

I think the lines are stronger and there is more definition to it. I think it stands out more than that of the C5. Maybe bolder would have been a better term.

==========================================================
I think it looks like a bold squatbutt...more like a deformed end of a show box...they were desperate for some kind of change..thus...

Short lived for sure!!!!!!!!!!

With the new C6 Z-06 coming out, it will doom the C6 to the point where a C5 Z-06 will be a steal.

I'm still not in love with the C6 and to me it's an old man's car who is trying to capture his youth. And if he was really trying to capture his youth he would step out and get a C2 for sure.

And l'm 60yrs old and could well afford a C6 but i would lose something that say's l'm young again.

Alan

p.s. I'm going to start a new thread in the off the road lounge now.

I believe a majority of body panels will be replaced with a few years. I am thinking evolution as Dave Hill said and it will slowly evolve in to the TRUE C-6.

I think some of the C6 Z06 features will trickle their way to the C6. But that's a good thing!:D

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a significant Hp gain for the base C-6
