Hi,

I need to buy a spare set of keys to my -93 Coupe.

Since our Swedish GM store wants between 5-10 times as much for the keys i was thinking about ordering from US. But i need to decide what ignition key type i have (there are 12 different types if i understand this correctly) and our GM dealer is very helpfull. As long as i order from him...
So now they wont help.

Can i decide from ny chassi # or something (that is probably a swedish term, i am refering to each cars "id-number", visible at the bottom right of the windshield for instance) ?

Can US shops help with this if i order from them?

Here you go:

If you can't pull up the PDF file, let me know and I'll figure a way to get you the info. If you know how to use and have accesss to a multimeter you can do it yourself. Otherwise a locksmith should be able to help you easily and cheaply.

Thanks!!

So if i understand this correctly, all i need to do is messure the resistance on the key, i dont have to perform step 2.

Then i will have the shop sell me a key with the same resistance, they would prefer a typ (1-12) according to the catalog but i suppose that will work.

I believe that is correct. I own an older car though. I know there have been some key changes, but I think this still is applicable:) .

Keys

If the Swedes are as honest as we hear on this side of the pond, just defeat the system. If they're not, a good tow driver will have the car in less than 120 seconds anyway.
Can you sense that I think the system is a pain in the ***?
There are a few threads on how to defeat or bypass the key system over the last few months. Try the "Search" tab above if Moonunit's isn't accessible.

UH, I think he just wants an extra set of keys:D

I believe you can buy the key blanks from Ecklers or MAD. $15.
Just reference the key code below after measuring plug with an ohmmeter.

1 - 402
2 - 523
3 - 681
4 - 887
5 - 1130

7 - 1870
8 - 2370
9 - 3010

11 - 4570
12 - 6040
13 - 7500
14 - 9530
15 - 11800
