Had to move the car around the other day in the garage, needs to get brakes so I can drive it.....but the thing that boethers me the most about the car....is how the heck do you get it so that a tall person can comfortably sit behind the wheel and drive it....the wheel is in my crotch! God help me if I ever need to stop quickly and move my big ole fett around under that dash......so what does everyone do to fit?

Seems that going from the current sterring wheel of 17" to 15" would certainly help...just need more armstrong power steering, and that is ok....what has anyone else done with the steering wheel in terms of changing it out to something that isn't in their crotch?

What about the seats? The interior of the car is in nice shape and it seems a sin to pull the seats out....but if I did what would I put in there that would look decent and not have me up next to the wheel.

Anyone have pictures of seats and wheels in their cars that gives more room I would love to see them......I love the classic lines of the car, but really don't like being cramped....it would be very hard to go anywhere in the car being cramped....so what did everyone do?

My 64 Stingray has the room......HELP!!!!!!!

Welcome to the C1

I hope 67 heaven remembers the post,I cant find it.A while back some had the same question.

There was a guy mike who used to stop by our forum who actually relocated his firewall foward a bit,

I think the only options are to go with a smaller wheel and less padding in the seat bottom.

I hope you find some options here

hmmmmmm
a few months back I seem top recall a simialr question and I think someone mentioned a company that was just coming out with repalcement seats for the C1's. I believe they looked pretty stock but allowed for more room by designing the seats with less padding in the back and the bottom but I don't remember the name of the company.
Hopefully someone else can remember this thread and find it for you

sorry i couldn't be more helpful

that is exactly what I think I need....hopefully someone will remember the place they saw that...I would love to gain about 3 more inches in the car...what a difference that would be...enough of a difference between keeping it and selling it....

If you click on Search and type in Headroom it gives a number of posts, some are from people up to 6'6" and with various years of vettes. Maybe an answer lurks in these posts, at least until 67Heaven comes to your rescue, hope it helps. Good luck on your search and hope you find a solution.

good comment, I tried to do a search before but came up empty handed...thanks!

Any luck finding a solution yet? Please let us know, there's a lot of tall members out there with similar concerns. I'm only 5'10" and I find headroom in my Z28 a little tight when you get in but heaven help anyone with size 12 feet or bigger because I swear the engineers must have size 8 feet who design under the dash footroom. Good luck!

looks like the wise guy interior solution will be the answer....what I plan to do is to buy one seat with foam and frame....put that in the car and see how I fit....if that looks good then I will buy the steering wheel that is the smaller diameter...if that works then I will take my 401 k and dump it into the car the rest of the way...if that doesn't work, well then I will probably sell the car and minimize what I have to put in it......

I just bought a teak wheel from Eric Freeman. It is for the later mid 70s cars. It is smaller and not as deep. It looks the same as a midyear wheel and will bolt on. He has a small spacer that makes up for the notch in the later wheels. It gave me much more leg room and more room to stretch my arms out. His number is 704 510 2250 .

My brother- in-law has an older modified Cutlass and he is 6'4" or 6'5" and he put in new seats that are ie: NASCAR design which literally bolts to the floor w/ almost 0-1" clearance under the seat.(Not much comfort for touring!). I sat in the passenger seat and if I put my elbow on the door it's way up at ear level, I figure it dropped me 4-6". He added NASCAR type harness seat belts too but I don't know if you want that look for the vette. He found out later that if your insurance finds out it wants more $$ (Figure you're racing etc!) Anyways hope you find an answer that is economical and looks good. Good luck.
