HUD Display shows Oil Dripping and does not show correct fuel

After having the Vette away for the winter, started the car and the HUD shows a dripping oil container and the fuel is registering incorrectly. Stuck at 3/4 tank. Drove the car and oil pressure is fine. No codes on the DIC. Filled up the tank and the fuel guage shows full but the HUD still shows 3/4 full. It is going into the dealership when there is not going to be any rain. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks,

Donna

Hmmm.... :eek:hnoes

Donna,
How long was your Vette in storage? The reason I ask is that I have heard gas stored without some stablizing product like Stabil will begin to sort of congeal in the tank. My theory here is that you may be looking at the after-effects of a tank of gas gone bad after a lengthy storage.

Okay- I know this theory sounds wild, but I've met scores of Corvette owners who swear that if you don't put Stabil (or something similar) in your tank before you store your car for months over a cold winter, the constituent components in your tank can begin to separate, and the "bad stuff" will fall to the bottom of the tank and do all sort of bad things.

I'm thinking the symptoms you describe could be some of those "bad things" from the "bad stuff" of the separated components of your gas.

Three-quarters of a tank, though. That's an awful lot of gas to be purged from the system and replaced with new gas, but I'm thinking that may be the fix here.

What other symptoms have you noticed?

I am thinking maybe just a glitch.

Make sure your oil level is OK.

I would drive your Vette a bit.

I have been storing cars over the winter for years. I am in Chicago. I have never used any kind of gas treatment. Never had any problem. Just my experience.

The heads up display projects 3 things. The speed, the engine RPM, and one of about 4 other things. You can set it so that it just shows speed, or just the tachometer, and you can change the other one to temp, oil pressure, and some other options (I forget). The dripping oil can is just the symbol that says you are looking at oil pressure. There is a small bar graph to the side of the dripping oil can; that is the actual pressure display.

The gas gauge is often due to the sending unit in the gas tank. I suggest only top grade fuel, and an occasional treatment with techron. Our friend, c4c5specialist, a top notch Corvette mechanic, has recommended exactly that for the gas gauge issue. I could not find some of the threads that my old, feeble memory tells me should be there. But here are a couple to get you started. You could also try the site search feature.

The oil level is fine. The gas gauge on the dash is correct. The HUD is the only thing that is incorrect.

We just solved your problem. The HUD is NOT showing fuel level, it is showing oil pressure. It will NOT show both. It can be reset in the driver information center controls if fuel level is what you want displayed. I don't remember the details on how to do it, but the owners' manual would tell you.

On my 2000 convertible, all you have to do is press the page button and release. this scrolls through the various HUD display options.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

The people on this site never cease to amaze me. Problem solved. Just learned something new again about the Vette. That saved a trip to the Chevy dealership and possibly a diagnostic charge. Thanks Again!!!
