hurst shifter question

Greetings, I just installed a Hurst Billet Plus Shifter in my 04 Z06. Its unbelievable! It reduced the amount of space between the gears significantly.
The installation went pretty smooth....Upon removing the old shifter i noticed that there is a small alignment rod that connected to the front of the stock shifter. The new shifter did not have a slot for the rod. I left it out. Is that the way it is supposed to be?

Yes, remove it, but do not get rid of it.
This pin is important for the adjustment of the shifter.
