I went to Papa Johns to pick up my pizza last weekend. I drove my red 81, which after many years of hard work looks like it rolled out of the factory. One fella that worked there said wow and was sincerely impressed looking at it from the window when I went inside. Another guy said "that is one of the ugly vettes." After a sharp glance from myself he tried to correct what he said by saying things like it looks good, asking about the engine, etc. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but how could anyone think a shark is ugly? There is nothing remotely like them on the road today. I think like any Vette it is more of a work of art than a mode of transportation. Of course this comment came from a pizza guy, and not trying to be cruel, but he probably couldn't afford the tires on it (this comment crossed my mind, but I kept my mouth shut). Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone.

Some people have a habit of opening their mouths before engaging their brains. Just consider the source and feel sorry for the guy!!

Randy;)

Wow - ugly, that is deep. You are right in assuming they are a work of art. If you've ever worked on the body, you know that 'flat spaces' are at a bare minimum on sharks. He must have been thinking of an Edsel or a '63 Chrysler when you pulled in - either that or he was high! The only thing I don't like about ours are the 'bay window' in the back of them, but some find that endearing. Just my opinion.

Consider the source...he probably thinks Papa John's is real pizza and good too.

Sorry you had to get that comment, while in earshot..
Been there, gotten the comments (flashy, pimpmobile, gas guzzler etc etc), and you know what: They dont know how much fun these cars are for us. People that dont appreciate a Vette, dont know the smiles we get from looking at them, driving them etc... The guy isnt worth your thoughts.. Just think to yourself: I am driving this beauty and you dont know what you are talking about..

Lance,

Forget it - the guys a moron. The guys that count (Corvette people) love the sharks.

Remo:cool

I've seen one or two ugly C3s in my time, but it takes so much effort to make that happen that you have to at least appreciate the committment required.

;)

Let me roll up on his drive way at 2AM and see how ugly he thinks my car is!!! He would wake up thinking that a freight train was going through his trailer home.

Anyone who appreciates cars knows that the Corvette is king no matter what year and unless GM makes any major mistakes, always will be. I like the sugar scoop and the large window pretty equally. Both have carried over to some degree in later years. To me Corvette is the American Porsche or Ferrari (even tho more affordable). I just needed to vent on the comment. I am not a Mazda Miata or Porsche 911 fan by any means, but I am sure someone out there thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread. I sure wouldn't tell an owner that within earshot. So I guess it is all opinion. I like every year Corvette and wish I had one from each generation.

LanceB, you didn't give the age of the guy but I'm guessing he was young enough to believe ricers are the coolest cars on the planet. To him, beauty is things like useless wings, chrome 4" diameter fart cans and tiny little engines which have less displacement than your brake calipers.

Rather than taking it as an insult, consider the perspective of the source and take it as a compliment. Your Vette is none of the things which he likes. Good for you!!

Does it really matter? You and I and the rest of us know what you have. I'm a bit jealous, but that's another story ;) If everyone had a Vette, would it be a better world? Those that don't have them, or may never be able to have one, well... they're not everyones dream machine. Let it as his nightmare, :L

I love you man....:cry

ANyone can think anything they want about my vettes but I know what I got and not everyone is as lucky as me. Besides my main passenger has been married to me for 30 years and still likes me - Life is good/ let strangers say what the want.

To me there are three types of people in this world:

Type 1. Vette owners. They love ALL vettes and many have the desire to own all 6 Generations :v. They are well educated and know the meaning of working hard to achieve their goals and dreams. Owning a vette (or 2, or 3) is one of the rewards for their hard work.

Type 2. Want-a-be vette owners. They would love to own a vette. Any vette. But just cannot afford one at the moment. They are in the early stages of their careers. Someday they will have the funds to support their habit.

Type 3. Totally clueless in life. To them life just happened and they have no idea how they got here. To them Ricers are the ONLY real cars. Sometimes they dye their hair purple. Most can be found working at the local fast food joint and are easily identified as they try to make change from your $20.00 bill that you just gave them to pay for your order. Their ambition in life is to be the manager of the fast food joint. That way they can afford their Ricer.

People of the modern world according to H.D.;)

How sad. I have never seen an unaltered 'ugly' Corvette.

I'm with Mac and Heavy Duty. You guys are spot on. I agree, consider the source. Wonder what's parked out back of the joint?

In my mind, there are no ugly Corvettes-other than that hideous C-4 with all the stupid colors that looks like an acid trip gone sour. You know the one, the owner was mooching gas money at Carlisle, I guess. Even "works in progress" are pretty to me. I appreciate good effort.

H-D, I am one that wants AT LEAST one of every generation, and some models I want the coupe AND the convertible. You bet. :)

Let me say (and I am biased) I think the c-3 is just one of the most unique, and radical looks in the last 50 years of auto production. I would love a c-2, buy major cash issue. I always laugh, because I got about $60,000 tied into 2 harleys (2004 deuce and a 2003 road king) with alot of custom/motor stuff. And they don't turn the heads, and the thumbs don't go up anything like when my ol 79 c-3 goes crusin around town!! You can'y please everyone, so laugh at the clown.

When I drove my ''69 to High School in 1980, the little rich girls asked me...

"Why didn't you get a Porsche?"

Now that stings!

Sounds like the Pizzaman has a serious case of envy. Ignore the comment. The car's beautiful!

I drove my C6 to work last week, only to have one of my coworkers tell me that the car was "nice", but that his new Honda was faster.
