I'll being getting myself a c4 of some sort this summer for a daily driver. I'm just wondering if there's need to worry about hydro locking the engine from driving in the rain; I've been told c4 are vacuums. Is there anything out there that can help prevent the possibility or atleast decrease the chance of it happening?

Would a slp blackwing help prevent this? I've never owned a Vette so I'm just guessing, but it looks like it when it's installed the intake is no longer directly connected to the throttle body.

Thanks for the advice fellas.

I have driven my 90 at 60 mph in a downpour where you couldn't see over 200 ft. Never notice a problem .;shrug

WHile it is true that leaves and other debris get pulled up in front of the radiator, I've never read of hydro lock in many years on this, and other Vette boards.

The intakes are at/near the top of the radiator so it would take some deep water, or a modified intake that sucks colder air from way low.

Good luck with your purchase; take your time to find a good car. :w

There is a plate that directs the air coming in to the radiator. Like said above I've driven my '90 in some pretty heavy rain with no problem. Good luck :beer

Same here on my '88. Heavy rain no problem! Of course... I did slow down some.

As already stated, there are aftermarket intakes which collect are from the area in front of the radiator. These types of intakes would be more prone to the situation you are asking about.

On a C4, you're not going to have any problems with water ingestion unless you modify the car with an air intake that takes air from the cooling air flow. These are the kits which require you to cut a hole in the upper radiator cover.
