When you C4 guys strip the wheels and do the restoration process, did you all remove the tires from the rims? If not how did you protect the tires from the stripper?

When I did mine 3 years ago or so, I kept the tires on the wheel. I used acetone to strip the clearcoat as the "professionsl strength" stripper was a joke. It's alot of elbow grease but well worth the effort.

When I did mine, I did not remove the tire. If you are worried about the stripper getting on the tire, try putting masking or painters tape around the rim. Just might help and is a lot cheaper then have the wheels and tire busted down.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I figured I would mask them off, or put something like vaseline on them. Well I found a metal polish that solved my problem. It is called wizards metal polish, if anyone has this problem.

Mad-Mic recommended just using the like stripper in a can stuff, is that what you used and it didn't work. I just picked up some rims the style as yours and might start polishing them for an excuse to buy new tires :D .

I tried Buschs's Clear Coat remover. Got it from ecklers. It's gel like to stay in place but it did nothing to remove the clear. The acetone along with paper towels, a stiff brush and alot of rags and I was done in an afternoon.

This may be a stupid question, but since I have never done it, how will I know when I have all the clear coat stripped off the rims?

I moved this thread; it's more of a Care & Detailing question. :CAC
