I have to admit I am wrong....

CAUTION: thread about to be temporarily hijacked.....
Hi Justin :)
I seem to be all over the place these days, mainly lurking. Still working on getting a garage built for my Vette, things snowballed (as usual) along the way. Life would be far less complicated if we didn't have to work for a living, or have a penchant for collecting vehicles :lol
Do you know much about the different models of E4ME? We went to a classic car show yesterday &, instead of finding any useful parts for the MG, I found an E4ME! It's not the correct one as the numbers are different, but would you be able to tell me what it came off if I gave you the number? Unfortunately I can't get the number as it's still in the back of the Vette which, as you know, is kept miles from home (I NEED a garage!!).
All the best & good luck with the garage,
Paul
[End of Hijack - sorry about that!]
Robin, a T140 incognito?! Good move :) Probably teaching my Granny to suck eggs here, but a "Must Have" mod for a T140 is to replace the T.S ball race main with a 3 piece roller. The ball races can't take the power, especially if you swap out the wimpy ex cam, & the cage that holds the balls can break up. I've had to rebuild a few engines that have had nothing wrong with them apart from those bearing cages falling apart, and the owners were still reluctant to spend an extra $30 on decent bearings. What are people like?!
Norm, Did you fit the front valance on yours? If so, did you notice if the engine ran a bit cooler afterwards? We found that my wife's B ran cooler with a front valance fitted (& it looked much better than stock, until she ran it into a curb :( ). Nice MG, by the way. Ours had been painted in Guards Red just before we got it. It looked great but was obviously a cheap job because it's now faded to pink! We're spoilt really, having a choice of American & Brit Sports cars to use, but I've got to admit, I do have problems using a car that's.... pink :lol

Hi UKPaul

i have to agree with you completely regarding the British cars. I love Vettes but my very first car was an old '68 Austin Healy. I was 12 and convinced my dad to let me get on old junked up VW beetle to tear the body off and convert to a dune buggy. As we were at the junk yard looking for one he saw this AH and said "hey, lets get this instead and fix her up - it's looks like fun". Being only 12 and easily swayed I said sure. I didn't even know what this AH was at the time other than it looked cool and fun. Since I grew up on a big farm we had plently of room for me to drive that little AH all over and I kept it for about 3 or 4 years. That was my first car and I didn't even have a license yet and it was the car I learned how to drive a manual tranny with.
When we got it home from the junk yard all it needed was a battery and fresh gas and it started right up but the battery never kept a charge. We replaced the alternator but still the battery never kept a charge more than a day or so, so half the time I had to push it a bit to get it moving, hop in real fast and pop the clutch to start her but it worked without fail each and every time. I still blame that Lucas electric system for that hassle but I still loved that car. (reminds me of the old joke: why are British beers drunk warm? Because Lucas makes their refridgerators.) :L
I figure one day I might get another British car. an AH 3000 would be awesome, or a MBA or if something a bit newer a Triumph TR6.

Hi all:)

Yes ,those are my legs in my avatar, I would never stoop so low as to use anyone elses pictures or transfer them to this site , "if you want to do a comparassion check" look at my silly webpage " http://misssherry.vettepics.com ..
In my opinion, I've gained a few lbs while in the substance abuse clinic, :mad
as with all the avatars i've used in the past, I can honestly say that ALL of them were taken either by myself or via a friend thats as silly as i am:)

I owned a MGB rubber nose and a Jensen Healey. I had a bumper sticker on both of them that said the parts falling off this vehicle are of the finest britsh manufacturer. I miss both of them. I've also been divorced twice, coincidence, I think not.

I see fewer and fewer of them now a days, but I still get that itch every time I see one. But, am now looking for a woman that I don't really like to give the keys to my house to. I miss good british sports cars, I miss the feeling of wondering if they would make it to my destination. Therapy is helping.

I went to a cruise night and saw a restored Jensen... Have setup an appointment to see if meds will help. Please don't get me wrong, british sports cars are just like drinking warm beer, you have to put up with some stuff to enjoy the rest of the experience. I love my vette and would never replace it. But if I had the chance to get another british sports car, I hear that the Betty Ford foundation has a rehab program for that as well.

Lucas can't have made them..... we'd all be long dead from severe food poisoning by now if they did :L
singledad,
If you do ever buy another one, change your therapist! ;) I'd get a chrome bumper MG over a rubber bumper one. The rubber bumpered ones ride a lot higher & don't handle as well due to all the mods needed to comply with the US regulations in the 70's but, above all else, the rubber bumper ones were made in the 70's right at the peak of all the union militancy at British Leyland. When those strikers & left wing idealists weren't frequently downing tools & striking over the most pathetic reasons, they were producing some really appalling cars & destroying the countries manufacturing base for their childrens generation (my generation). Even the colors they painted them in were grim. The sad thing is that I've seen the mock-ups of the cars that the designers of the time were working on & some of them were really nice. I guess it's lucky that they weren't put into production as the BL workers would have first gone on strike demanding more money for making them & second, would have completely screwed it up. My 1st car was a 70's BL offering & I would NEVER have another car made by that bunch of militant idiots. I found it ironic that my 70's car was constantly going wrong, yet mates with older brit cars from the 60's would drive all over the country with no problems whatsoever.
Barry,
Somebody I know has a fleet of classic cars, going right back to the 20's. He employs a mechanic to look after them all & has brit, german & Americans. The one car that he enjoys driving the most is an Austin Healey. I'll tell him that they make good farmyard vehicles ;) It must have been fun driving that around as a kid. I learnt to drive in the 70's POS mentioned above. I didn't learn much about driving, but I learnt a lot about engines, gearboxes, clutches, hydraulics & Joe Lucas electrics. Looking back through my rose tinted specs I can't think of a single time that the cursed thing ever did anything good. The one chance it had of redeeming itself was when I took a mate & 3 girls to a Bob Dylan & Santana concert at Wembly Stadium. The sun was shining, it was hot, the beers were cold, it was one of those lazy days where everybody was happy, there were 3 girls in the back & what happened? We got to the concert 1/2 way through the 2nd act, stinking of gasoline, hands ripped to shreds & oozing blood, covered in engine oil & antifreeze & with 3rd degree burns to my arms. Yup, the Austin Princess was up to it's normal standard of abysmal reliability.
It's hard to believe that the industry that made my wife's '67 MGB, which is regularly used in the worst weather that is thrown at us & doesn't miss a beat although it's 37 years old, could later produce a car that rarely got me anywhere without a hitch, even though it was only 10 years old.

Hi Paul,

Yes I did fit the front valance on. I ordered it from Victoria British. It's supposed to be a copy of the Leland Special Tuning valance and it is made in the UK. The car has never run hot but I do have a factory 13 row oil cooler. The car was originally Harvest Gold but looks much better in Tartan Red.

Cheers.

PS: to Singledad9 - great avatar, love the commercials.
