1982 silver/claret
When i first joined CAC and read the "Creed" the part about not taking the car to a car wash had me rolling my eyes, I thought when am I ever going to have time to wash and wax a car! Well I am happy to report that I have washed and waxed the car twice my first month and I enjoy doing it! I even washed and waxed the Neon and it looks pretty good too! Pulling the neon in the driveway was the first time I drove her in like a week!

Okay check this out - I am pretty hyped on the green and black color scheme and maybe using a silver stripe to break it up. That way if I run out of money the silver/gray interior won't look out of place.

Anyway I saw this...

and this...
http://www.mershons.com/view_photo.asp?ID=5483&image=Exterior (i think its the same color!)

and a few other colors...it would be nice to keep it at least a corvette color, right? even if it wasn't available in my year.

this kind of shows how the green and black look together - but not quite this color green and not that paint job!...

another nice green..

Hopefully the real colors aren't too far off from the monitor, but I will look at the chips soon.
I hope you are all enjoying this teriffic weather!

I liked the green in the 2nd picture (maybe the way the sun hit it...) but the green in the 3rd pic really stood out!

As the former owner of a Buick Grand National I can tell ya Black is nice but a pain in the behind to keep that way. The green on the 69 Camaro you showed would be my choice though I would be keeping the original colors on your Vette as I think it is a great 2 tone combo. Just my .02.

Hummm.... Isn't the Corvette two-tone silver with claret paint fairly unusual? I've only seen a couple of them in recent years, so you already have a rare ride. Changing the complete car color is a PIA and a ton of work to do right. Done wrong and the car's appearance is destroyed.
Ever think about redoing the stock colors, and changing the interior--black perhaps? Add custom painted stripes to seperate the paint colors and a set of custom wheels for a tricked-out ride.
Just a thought:)

I checked out on the CAC site about how many of each color were produced...at the time I didn't think it was anything rare...
I did just find this...and I am not sure what the owner is referring to...

okay...
last 6 digits are 100361 - this is confusing to me as the site says...http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c3/1982/82id.html
Last 6 digits Production Number starting with 500001 - 5125408.

it is not a rare one as it has 87 not 07 in the VIN number

what i can't find now is the link that split down the amount built by color...I think there were a 1000+ of the silver/claret built. if anyone can find that link I would appreciate it!

According to the Corvette Black Book: 1301 82's were painted silver and claret. Your car was the 361st Vette built for 82 making it a very early car.

I think the green and silver would be sharp,i think the c5's had a green that was fariway green that looked nice too.see if i can find a pic. of it.also bowling green and silver that would be cool.

I agree with Pat. The fairway green would be awesome.

(Pat and I have too much in common. C3s with TPI and overdrives... and the same taste in C5 colors.:L )

Green is okay if you are driving an Olds 88 but all REAL CORVETTE ARE RED!!!!!;)

Just kidding!:W I like the 1st green hue the best but then what do I know!

:D we just have good taste

well i have been informed by the auto body man that ....
The first Vette has gold in the paint formula and won't work with the other colors, Elkhart Green has the silver tone to it but doesn't pop like the rally green

He just sent me this...i can't make out the colors that well and i am waiting for clarification about the strip - it looks like it wraps around the front and ends on the hood? I can't tell for sure. I really like the side stripe a lot. I think I am too symetrical for a stripe to be only on the one side...

That stripe is way too big and gaudy. Looks like something a hit man from the Bronx might drive.

when i bring it to shows...i can say...

you toucha my car I breaka ya face ;-)

You have a Corvette which while not exactly unique, would still in my book be considered rare. It's the last year of the C3. It's the first year all models were built at the Bowling Green Plant. It was the 361st Vette built that year. (Wonder how many with lower numbers are still out there?) It's a 23 year old survivor in the very beautiful silver/dark claret paint combination. There were only 1301 in that color combo built in 1982. Wonder how many of those are left? Half, a quarter? Yours and the one for sale are the first I've heard about.

It seems a shame to paint it any color but the original two toned silver/dark claret.

That being said, it's your car and you have to do what makes you happy.

Good luck

Lori,

I have to agree with some of the others about leaving it the beautiful silver/claret two tone. It's rare and a unique color combination. I'd most definitely stay with it. Just my opinion, of course.:D

Nah, I'd just park it at the show and display prominantly...a bucket, and a bag of quik-set concrete. :D Maybe attach a note saying "Don't touch the 'vette" and asking where the nearest body of water is...

Ya know, I wanted to paint our 78SA silver and green, but Kenny talked me out of it. I didn't know anything about the rarity of Corvettes, their production numbers and such...but I am glad we didn't change its' original paint scheme.

Personally, before I did anything drastic I would find the largest inexpensive late c3 model you can and have the boy friend blend some paints for you and start painting until you get something you like. Have you ever painted a room off a paint chip color and ended up with a holy s*** what have a done? I don't think that would be a suitable outcome where your new pride and joy is concerned, eh? Besides, you have plenty of time until winter as now is the drive or die season. You also need to see as many cars as possible before you have paint put on your car. Have you considered a nice drive to Carlisle, PA 8/26-8/28 as nowhere nearer to us will more vettes be assembled in one place. It is truly awe inspiring.
